I'm an atheist, and I don't get this. It's these types of things, and what that idiot Newdow did, that gives atheists a bad name. What does it matter to this guy if Jesus ever existed or not? You have your belief, that he didn't exist, the priest believes he did. STFU, and mind your business.

Why should you care, Atheist? By your own professed belief, you are no better than a dog or a hog that goes "poof" when it dies. Why should you care whether atheists "get a bad name?"

(I was an atheist as a student, but outgrew that silliness, by the grace of God.)

I've never understood why atheists are so disturbed by something they feel is irrelevant or even non-existence.

From my experience there is the stand-alone atheist who has his opinion/belief and needs no buttressing. There are the other atheists who substitute atheism for religion and have the absolute need to proselytize and convert others into their belief structure. You appear to be type 1 where Mr Newdow and this Italian gent are the other. Their belief in non-belief requires fellow believers in non-belief.
