You can't compare abortion and the Schiavo case. I'm sorry, but the Schiavos were delusional in thinking that their daughter could recover.

I don't know about you but I don't want to kill someone not knowing for sure if it was the right thing to do. That's not something I'd rather explain to God.

As for delusional thinking, people in as bad of shape as her have recovered before. Such things are called miracles and they do on occasion happen. Not that you'll see something like that on the nightly news since it doesn't fit into their nice little worldview.

I know I will get flamed, but, I'd say that as long as a country engages in warfare, it cannot truly value life. Warfare, even against the merciless, zealot enemy, means death and destruction of lives.

Pure nonsense.

We allow invaders to slaughter our wives and children but refuse to fight a war in which we might have to kill in self defense?

Even devout Christian, Sergeant Alvin York, the World War One Tennessee hero, searched his pacifist soul and realized that he had to take life in war to save even MORE life.

Suzanne is so lovely and so correct in her assessment, that
we have lost our way as a nation.

God bless her every effort and that of Terri's family's
foundation to protect life as our nation should have
done for her sister!!

Is there anything more important??

I understand Terri Schiavo's sister's point, but do not agree that the title reflects the truth. It's a blanket statement that the "U.S. Doesn't Value Life", painting all of U.S. citizens with the same brush. That is not an accurate statement and I"m sure many FReepers will agree.

Well okay then. The courts don't believe in the value of life.

The autopsy was the final determining factor in that. But she was breathing on her on and was not on life support. They had every right and justification to fight for her life. What I can't understand is a court system in which in all 50 states considers adultery as grounds for ending a marriage let her husband represent her under those conditions. I didn't buy his story then and I'm not now.

The husband who obviously by his own conduct against his marriage to her had another woman should have been divorced and her parents made guardian.

"No your idealist message belongs in fantasy land. send me some of what you are smoking, seriously, send me some of what you are smoking. I still will not be in your fantasy world, but I'm sure it must be good shit."

Ya think. Let's see: Add to "mercy" killings, abortion on demand and increasing victimization of our children, and yeah, I'd say America has really strayed on its value of human life.

Warfare, even against the merciless, zealot enemy, means death and destruction of lives. This idealist message belongs in academia.

The vast majority of government-caused deaths take place during peacetime, not during wars. Prof. R. J. Rummel of the University of Hawaii estimates the ratio of those killed by governments in peacetime to those killed in wars at six to one. You can read more at his website:

http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/welcome.html

If the goal is to reduce the number of unnecessary deaths, it looks far more promising to replace authoritarian regimes with democracies than to tilt at the windmill of ending war.

When a statement of this kind is made it is meant to be an indictment of society in "general". I'm sure it doesn't suggest all Americans are cold blooded killers.

WTF!!!

The United States engaged in a world war it didn't have to be involved in. The US gained NOTHING for itself by doing so, but freed millions from starvation, death, and torture by doing so. In summary, the US did it because they valued all human life, even those beyond its borders.

I was playing the devil's advocate. Of course, realistically it makes sense to fight and kill the enemy.

Good point. I also would like to note that religion has NOT caused the most deaths in world history, unless one regards socialism as a religion. 100 million deaths at the hands of socialism madmen.
