The Galveston County Medical Society, the professional association for Galveston County physicians, will install new officers Jan. 26.
Congressman Ron Paul will be the keynote speaker for the event, which will be held at Gaidos Seafood Restaurant in Galveston.
Robin Armstrong will be installed as president. He grew up in this area and is a 1987 graduate of La Marque High School. He currently works at Mainland Medical Center as a hospitalist. Armstrong serves on the Board of Directors of the Texas Medical Associations Political Action Committee and is on the Council of Constitution and Bylaws for the TMA. He is also a candidate for vice chair of the Republican Party of Texas.
Other medical society officers to be installed for 2006 are John Jennings, president-elect; Kiran Shah, vice president; and Jerry Daniels, secretary-treasurer.
Jennings, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at UTMB, also served as the 2003-04 president of the Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is the editor of Texas Medicine.
Shah has practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Texas City for 28 years. He is the Regional Director for the Southwest Region of the American Association of Physicians of India and a surveyor for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
Daniels is the Edna S. and William C. Levin professor of internal medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He is a professor of microbiology and associate chairman of medicine in UTMBs department of internal medicine.
The officers will be installed by Ladon Homer, president-elect of the Texas Medical Association.
