HERZLIYA, Israel, Jan. 21 (UPI) --
Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz warned the Iranian people Saturday that they faced "destruction" unless they managed to restrain their new President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
"Look at the fate of others who sought the destruction of the Jewish people. They only brought havoc and destruction to the own people," Mofaz said.
"I know that a large part of the people of Iran do not support his policies but his despicable acts could bring destruction to all of you. You understand what must be done to prevent this," Mofaz added, directly addressing the Iranian people.
It was the toughest statement of Israel's determination to block Iran's nuclear ambitions since the stroke that felled Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon two weeks ago, and it came just two days before the next scheduled international inspection of Iran's nuclear research facilities.

If I could be on the front lines with them I would. Nothing better than to fight for what is right.
The fellow seeing 11 everywhere, I didn't quite read the whole thread; but I am thinking, we are at the 11th hour in alot of this.
Wrong. This isn't about choosing between America or the Imams. It's about choosing peace. It's about choosing the path of good versus evil. It's about living peacefully with your neighbors and not threatening to blow your neighbors off the face of the earth because you have an extreme idiology.
I'm not a very good Christian..I trip and stumble..alot.."
Tripping and stumbling....a lot, doesn't make you a bad Christian. We all trip and stumble..a lot.
If anyone retaliates against Israel we will be drawn in in a big way and fast."
Anyone who is a threat to Israel is a threat to U.S.
The Iranians are so bold right now because the believe the coming of the last imam ( al mahdi) is imminent. This is their God that they have been waiting on.
Whatever Israel plans to do, it needs to do it while W is still in the saddle."
If we ever got a President hostile to Israel, Israel would stop confiding in the U.S.Israel has shown a lot of restraint in respect to the U.S.,but Israel will take care of it's own.
Our nukes are mobile and move both day and night. (Submarines. The U.S. has closed down most of our hardened missile silos because they aren't needed.)
"The Iranians are so bold right now because the believe the coming of the last imam ( al mahdi) is imminent. This is their God that they have been waiting on."
Beware the ones from our own fold that cherish the same notion, different guise.
The COLLECTIVE unconscious is just that....UNCONSCIOUS. As a somewhat aging hippie and a wise man once said to me many years ago:...'Beware the peace niks..for what could be more peaceful than the earth after a nuclear holocaust..all suffering ended..all strife resolved..all political polarities unneccessary.
Indeed..........
It's not that Jewish people are any more special than anyone else

Sorry, yes they are. The OT says explicitly that they are the "apple of God's eye." He will deal with them the way He sees fit, which is detailed very well in all the prophetic books of both the OT and NT. Otherwise, I agree w/your comment.

It'll all be over with Iran when GWB leaves office. We'll still be fighting terrorists and probably more of'em after Iran though.
Voices the little man hears in his mishapen head..
---The Arabs/Muslims had better hope Israel strikes first, as if Israel were decimated by a WMD strike, they may just decide to retaliate against ALL her enemies - Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc. with nukes on Israeli subs & in hardened silos.
Israel should inform these countries that if any of them attack Israel with WMD, then Israel will assume an attack from all of them, and respond in kind on each & every one of them. Perhaps then some REAL pressure will be applied to Iran & their ilk.---
Mofaz, in fact, did announce that an attack from one would be met with retaliation against all who supported it, in a policy statement last year.
---The Iranians are so bold right now because the believe the coming of the last imam ( al mahdi) is imminent. This is their God that they have been waiting on.---
And their extreme rhetoric is not about provoking a response from us or Israel, it's about rallying the rest of Islam to this final battle.
"It's about choosing peace."
Wihtout weapons in their hands, I don't see what choice they have. And the only ones who could put weapons in their hands are us (US).
I agree; I doubt Israel will wait for the rest of the Muslim world to come knocking at their door.
Israel should inform these countries that if any of them attack Israel with WMD, then Israel will assume an attack from all of them, and respond in kind on each & every one of them. Perhaps then some REAL pressure will be applied to Iran & their ilk.
I suspect they already know this. I'm not really sure what type of pressure the Islamic world could exert upon Iran. It seems the Iranian president is palling around with Assad of Syria. Together (at the present time), they will be the most powerful bloc in the Middle East (with the exception of the Turks).
JFK did basically the same thing during the Cuban missile crisis, telling the USSR that ANY nuclear attack from ANY country on the US or its neighbors would be deemed by the US as an attack by the USSR, with full retaliation.
The USSR was an evil empire, but it wasn't stupid or blindly fanatical.
If Israel would announce this as policy, then perhaps the western oil consuming nations would realize that an irradiated Middle East WONT be producing ANY oil for many years to come, & will DO SOMETHING short of nuclear war to prevent this outcome.
I don't think we can count on other Western nations to do anything, since their obesience seems to be to the United Nations.
Policy or not, a nuclear exchange between Iran & Israel will probably spread nuclear fallout from Gaza to China, killing & sickening millions & rendering vast areas uninhabitable for years. Persian Gulf oil production will just be a memory.
You are correct of course.....but Israel will not go quietly into the night.
