>MELVILLE, W.Va. — Rescuers on Saturday found the bodies of two coal miners who disappeared after a conveyor belt caught fire deep inside a coal mine.

The bodies of Don I. Bragg, 33, and Ellery Hatfield, 47, were found in an area of the mine where rescue teams had been battling the fire for more than 40 hours.

"We have found the two miners we were looking for," said , director of the state Office of Miners' Health Training and Safety. "Unfortunately we don't have a positive outcome."

The miners became separated Thursday evening as their 12-member crew tried to escape a conveyor belt fire at Aracoma Coal's Alma No. 1 mine in Melville, about 60 miles southwest of . The rest of the crew and nine other miners working in a different section of the mine escaped unharmed.

Gov. and U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller informed families of the deaths at a church prior to making the announcement, along with Don Blankenship, chairman of the mine's owner, Massey Energy.

I'm sure rockefeller and byrd have legislation already written that will completely ruin the mining industry.

Looks like all the dems are going to do a political dance on the dead miners. They are truly despicable.

Remember a while back there was a deluge of homeschoolers gone bad articles? Homeschoolers killing their kids, abusing their kids, starving their kids, etc. We all know why stories like that get press time.

Well, now we seem to be getting a deluge of trapped and dead miners stories. Why? There must be a reason. Who stands to gain by all these tragedies being played up in the media? Is someone trying to close the mines because they want the land or what???

Conveniently...Rockefeller did NOT take questions...

He managed to get political...and even talk about how much MORE important coal is than oil...(because he is against ANWR..and Bush)

I think HE and BYRD need to be asked WHY it took these deaths for THEM to do something...my gosh, Rockefeller was the Governor...and they KNOW how dangerous these jobs are...but, NOW they are looking to Washington to fix the problems...that they could have and should have...

Someone needs to demand an answer by these two men!!

The bodies are not cold yet, but the finger-pointing begins. It always has to be something that the Government has to fix. How do we know that these miners didn't make a mistake? How can the government prevent people from screwing up? It makes me sick to see the rush to fix things, without even knowing what went wrong.

Not today. But in coming days, you can bank on it.

He'll propose a series of regulations that will effectively put the coal-mining industry in the hands of government. And if Bush dares to oppose his bill, he'll be "endangering the lives of miners and the security of their families".

The Dems lost West Virginia in the last two elections. They want it back, and they need this issue to get it. That's why Rockefeller was there today.

This has been a terrible month for West Virginia. 14 good men gone. So sad.

If he says anything other than, "I confess that I leaked the NSA surveillance story to the NYT, and I'm turning myself in Monday morning at 9am," it'll be wasted breath.

Two men are dead.

And the men who tried to reach them risked their own lives to try and find them alive.

The Dems may be a-holes enough to make political points today, but we should be above that today. Instead, we should offer prayers for the departed and their families and thanks for the searchers.

Expect within the hour to hear Democrats suggesting that Bush didn't care, since he didn't personally walk the coal mine. Just wait. Its all a big joke.

If you control the energy supply, you control the United States.
