I can't find anything specifically on that, ocean.

Maybe somebody will come along and tell us both.

How about a shot on every fourth sports metaphor that he uses, so everyone makes it home alive.

Do a shot every time Allen uses a sports metaphor!!!

Oh, that wouldn't be pretty.

What a flash from the past! For those who have not seen him before, I'm happy to be able to tell you that he does not look like Alfred E. Neuman, the way he does in this shot.

I beg to differ going back to Senator Allen's days in the House. He did not have a good record on Life issues in the HOuse.Government funding for Planned parenthood is not a good thing.

I have no problem with Allen. but let's acknowledge that his record as a US senator doesn't include votes on the issue of first trimester abortions for adult women - Roe insulates him (and alot of other pro-life republicans) from that - they can have an opinion on it, but can't do anything about it legislatively.

read the article I posted a link to above, google for some others related to it - my only point being, in a presidential campaign - he is going to be pressed on that position - not his legislative votes, his position.

And its a valid question - if Allen were elected president, Roe will be tossed (incrementally) because the next president gets to replace Ginsburg and Stevens. Its about time our party started explaining to the pro-life base what that really means - what it means for the abortion issue to return to the states. It does not mean abortion will be illegal across the US - and in fact, for adult women in the first trimester, will be legal in almost every state.

Making a drinking game out of that would put me in "The Betty" pretty fast.

I think at the personal level, Allen believes that life begins when brain waves can be detected. At least that's what he's said in years past. However, I also know him well enough to know that if science proved otherwise, to believe that he'd modify his position.

Whether or not you agree with him on an issue, I know for a fact he doesn't assume a position he hasn't thought through.

That said, as I mentioned above, his record on life issues matches up with anyone's out there. I've got all that stuff in my files somewhere. I'll have to go look for it.

This election isn't going to be won on abortion.

And I imagine his views on abortion are better than hers.

The pro life movement and the GOP hasn't communicated this to people. In fact, it's a misunderstanding on both sides of the aisle.

Roe being overturned sends pro abortion types into wails of horror: of course, as a practical matter it won't change a thing.

Roe being overturned sends pro life types into wails of delight: of course, as a practical matter it won't change a thing.

At least it appears that misunderstanding the dynamics is not a partisan issue. :-)

you don't have to convince me, I agree with you that his position is as good as it gets amongst the electable pool of republicans.

its the single issue pro-lifers you have to worry about.

Not this year or in 2008.

Regardless of what anybody else says.
