A European dictatorship
Washington Times ^ | January 20, 2006 | Frederick W. Stakelbeck Jr.

Posted on 01/21/2006 11:58:47 AM PST by Tailgunner Joe

U.S. and European security experts have become increasingly alarmed by the actions of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko -- in particular, his growing diplomatic, economic and military ties to global antagonists China, Iran and Russia. With the support of this new "axis of evil," Mr. Lukashenko -- Europe's last remaining dictator -- has initiated a Cold War campaign against the West and the United States

Over the past year, Mr. Lukashenko has made a determined effort to strengthen his contacts with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, an avowed anti-Semite and self-proclaimed enemy of the West. Since 1993, Iran has been a key recipient of Belarusian military and technology exports, receiving Soviet-made T-72 tanks and artillery, II-76 transport planes and conventional weapons from Minsk.

Mr. Lukashenko personally ordered Soviet-trained Belarusian chemists, scientists and technicians to work closely with Iran's mullahs on the deadly Shahab missile system -- designed to strike Europe and Israel -- as well as on the country's uranium enrichment and chemical warfare programs.

"Military cooperation with Iran will be carried out without danger to the world or security in the region," Mr. Lukashenko has said. ...

Bilateral relations between Belarus and China have also grown substantially over the past several years. Visiting Beijing in December, Mr. Lukashenko signed a declaration outlining further economic and political cooperation between Beijing and Minsk. ...

In early 2005, both countries signed a joint "Declaration for the 21st Century" document, agreeing to cooperate in the fields of economy, trade, science and military affairs. In addition, Wu Guansheng, a member of the Communist Party of China, and Chinese DefenseMinisterCao Gangchuan both visited Minsk last May. Not long after their visit, Belarusian Defense Minister Leonid Maltsev arrived in Beijing, where he signed documents allowing Chinese military personnel to train in Belarus.

Keep shilling, you'll still loose your elections and hopefully you socialists will never again recover.

As an Orange supporter I want them to win, yet I'm not making predictions- wouldn't want to look silly if I'm wrong. :)

"Not a generalization. I've spent considerable time working there."

Youre a busy guy - retiring from the AirForce or Army in March - why did they send youto Ukraine - to interview Russian Viet Nam vets?

Your story keeps changing - and funny how Russophile are called out, they start calling everyone Antisemetic and Nazis - that worked in 1945 but it doesn't cut it anymore.

jb6,

How do you explain your posts on Freep being identicle to Putins marching orders of 1/11/06:

"The objectives of media reaction.....
• maximum connection of the party “Rodina” with nationalist ideology and placing the responsibility for what is happening on the party;"

"One interesting thing to come out of this despicable act is Rodina and its leader Rogozin were very quick to condemn in very harsh language the skinhead and those who think like him. (Remember - this was a party accused of being anti-semitic [with good reason])."

If you live in the US, I trust you are registered as an agent for Russia.

Jewish cemetaries vandalized. People with dark complexion stabbed. Ethnic Russian children beaten in school.

Oh, really? So there's striking similarity - it seems just like Moscow. In Russia concern over hate crimes grows from Christian Science Monitor, 23 January.

Unfortunate events that happen on occasion, a rarity. Believe it or not, a democratic haven like Russia also has them. Actually it's hard to find a country where this stuff doesn't happen.

Ethnic Russian children beaten in school.

We have the same stories of Russians treating Ukrainians the same way, so shove it.

And they should be alarmed and actually appear to be doing something about it. You and Mazepa miss the point. I could never argue such things don't occur elsewhere BUT I can easily argue that in Western Ukraine it is not only condoned, it's encouraged. One need look no further to the funding received by the current Ukrainian "leaders" from far right anti-semitic groups. It'd be the equivalent of Putin receiving funding from the guys who back spanalot's favorite newspaper "Zavtra." Or from Bush getting money from the KKK.

Furthermore, if Ukrainians are so mistreated in Russia why do they still go there and easily assimilate?

<< ... may merge with Russia if threatened enough ... >>

If whom is "threatened?"

And by what?

Its president?

By his own psychoses?

By his own paranoia?

You continue to post propaganda from the anti-semitic, anti-American, anti-democratic, anti-capitalist newpaper "Zavtra" - You also make an invalid attempt to say I am endorsing Rogozin. Learn English and re-read that statement. Also, will you spanalot condemn your source "Zavtra" that you use on here to further your cause? So that all here can see what Spanalot uses for his sources and so they can see what he really backs: The newspaper "Zavtra": "The most significant and popular periodical with the widest political amplitude in the national-patriotic specter, Zavtra (Tomorrow) newspaper (a real model of anti-liberal ⌠red/white pluralism¡) supported the candidacy of Gennady Zyuganov, Chair of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF)." This puts spanalot in the same group as pro-communist supporters. Here's the kind of filth "Zavtra" publishes: "Other outrageous pronouncements by General Makashov include an editorial by him in the Russian newspaper Zavtra, printed in October 1998, which stated that a "Yid," a derogatory term used in Russia to mean Jew, is "a bloodsucker feeding on the misfortunes of other people. They drink the blood of the indigenous peoples of the state; they are destroying industry and agriculture." He caused the greatest splash later in October when he led two fiery rallies, in Moscow and Samara, commemorating the 81st anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution, which were repeatedly shown on Russian television. At these rallies Makashov angrily shouted "I will round up all the Yids and send them to the next world!" But Spanalot will use the same paper to disparage American servicemen... After the terrorist attack on 9/11 the newspaper "Zavtra" ran a political cartoon depicting a "Jewish Geanie" destroying the towers. And: "In another manifestation of this trend, Zavtra, a leading Russian ultranationalist and anti-Semitic weekly newspaper that allegedly gets financial support from an Arab organization, devotes a lot of space in each issue to anti-Zionist and pro-Palestinian propaganda - and to promoting the idea of a common Orthodox Christian and Muslim fight against world Jewry and U.S.-led globalization forces. In every issue, Zavtra praises "comrade Arafat" and justifies Palestinian suicide bombers, calling them heroic fighters who are punishing the Israeli occupiers. ..." So, spanalot - do you still want to use the source of the so-called decree? Or will you now resolutely condemn Zavtra, admit to its falsehoods and anti-Americanism and anti-semitism? Or will you continue to use it in your quest to throw dirt in the faces of Americans who have served? BTW, when did you serve and for whose Army???????

"why did they send youto Ukraine - to interview Russian Viet Nam vets"

Pay attention. Ukrainians, Russians, Belarusians, Poles, Czechs, Tadjiks, Georgians, Armenians, Romanians, Cubans, North Koreans, Bulgarians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Estonians, Uzbeks, Azeris, Turkmen, etc. ALL participated in the Vietnam War - sent there as Soviets. What don't you understand?

We? Would that be the voices in your head? When are you going to denounce the newspaper "Zavtra" and admit to furthering your home country's radical element's goals to the detriment of American foreign policy?

You've seen his bills? Listen, it's empty talk- some loudmouths are saying it's Berezovsky, others U.S.A., others Soros, others say it's local Ukrainian oligarchs- Poroshenko, Tymoshenko, RosUkrEnergo (!)etc., still others-a Jewish conspirators against mother Russia.

While these are all conjectures, it is certain that his "Nasha Ukraina" doesn't represent that element. (well, actually there was one guy who made antisemitic comments- he was booted a year ago)

Rabinovitch and Chervonenko- is all I need to know. If they're ok, jews are ok.

Ukraine to Russia immigration is negligible. Not sure if it's even bigger than Russia to Ukraine immigration. But if you're referring to Ukrainians seeking jobs in Russia, then of course it's quite different- things people put up with for a buck. (Actually look at me- I travelled half way around the world for that too.)

Heck, they even named a street in honor of a Chechen terrorist - why, you might ask? Because he killed Russians. Jewish cemetaries vandalized. People with dark complexion stabbed. Ethnic Russian children beaten in school. All happened in just one week last October in Lvov.

Yep, these Western Ukranians sound like really nice people.
