We mustn't compete with the oil industry by recharging spent rods.

I got to watch your cousin over the 3 preliminary nights and thought she did a great job. She was very sassy. I was amazed at her during the swimsuit competition--she had a six-pack! It made me feel like I needed to work out...a lot! LOL

If Nevada backs out, they should repay the feds every penny of the studies, construction, inspection, etc...then pay penalties on top of that!

Yhe Feds own most of the state as it is.

She's our Miss Nevada?

Sheesh, I see better lookers working the checkout counter at our local stores!
Looks like the vote was rigged, who is related to, or sleeping with?

We can do better, and Yucca is unlikely to ever open as intended via the "Screw Nevada" bill.

Aw, come on now. True she wasn't the best looking contestant in the Miss America pageant, but she did okay based on what I saw of her earlier this week. She's a talented dancer. Besides, it really is not intended to be a "beauty" contest--even though people think it is.

Where do you get THAT nonsense?

Some political whores and drooling contractors eagerly accepted Yucca, the majority of Nevada citizens never did.
"Nevada is NOT a waste land"

Nevada was "chosen" (wink, wink) only because at the time the nuke dump was being pushed Nevada had a very sparse population and very little representation in congress.
There is a very good reason the legislation is widely known as the "Screw Nevada" bill.
It should be clear to anyone without bias that the selection process was fraudulent, as NO other site was ever studied, or even considered.

BTW, DOE has always denied that Yucca is being built under the guise of continued "Study". Your statements and hers appear to contradict them.

No they only claim to, unconstitutionally!

Our constitution requires that all states be admitted to the union on an equal footing. Nevada was coerced into relinquishing it's public lands to the Fed. as a condition of statehood.

Not one of Lincoln's best moments.

If it's billed as a beauty pageant I expect beauty to prevail, not politics or lame "talent" competitions.
Which probably helps explain why I never watch them.

Yeah, I'm not surprised. There is no outcry from the left and the MSM doesn't highlight it because its the lord god French, so it must be o.k. Maybe we could send our spent rods there for storage.

I wanted to add something to my reply.

the NIMBY factor is not to be overlooked. No matter where the waste site was located, there would be protests. The fact is that the site has to go somewhere in the US. Would you put Yucca mountain at the top ten? Five? Was YM an UNREASONABLE site?

I've read articles on the dangers of the waste. As memory serves, they read something like One pellet can kill a healthy, virile man with clear arteries in no time and leave his children crying because he had no insurance. Oh, by the way, the government says the storage containers, like the site are safe.

The difference between "fraudulent" on "focused" needs some, ah, focus. There were studies about the site. Studies cost money. People make money from studies. So, if twelve professors had a concern, they could make money on a study, especially if they had the protests to back them. Do you think members of our academic community would stoop so low?

The fact is that Yucca Mountain works better than most other sites in the US. If they start shipping the waste during the hottest times of the summer the protests will we minimal.

Yes, I'm cynical. I'm also a realist. Yucca Mountain is better than the NY Subway for storage...etc. It's not perfect, but neither is the "wasteland" of Nevada (Las Vegas).

BTW, Wyoming has even LESS representation than Nevada if you use the population/at-large representives as a measure. The site isn't there.....ergo?

You are still subscribing to the fallacy that nuclear material can be handled the same way cave men handled their refuse.
We can no longer simply throw our wast into a pit and forget about it.

Does any SANE person really think we can maintain a monitoring and support program, maintenance, etc., for 10,000 years?

We cannot even keep all of our railroads, highways, and bridges up to safe standards!

It does no good to create new infrastructure of any kind (beyond the short term profit of the contractors) if it cannot be maintained.
Yucca is possibly the most ambitious project since the Egyptian pyramids, and the only one I know that is claimed to equal them for durability, while also keeping a bureaucracy to monitor it of equal duration.

In short, the Yucca project is insane, no matter where it is to be built.

I actually support nuclear energy, but we could probably have a legitimate solution to the problem of neutralizing the spent fuel if we had spent the money wasted on Yucca researching that, instead of taking the easy and short-sighted approach.

Yucca is a monument to Gov. Org. stupidity, those responsible know they will be dead before the inevitable problems arise, so they just do not care.
