ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistan's president told a senior U.S. official on Saturday that the airstrike on a Pakistani village last week cannot be repeated, a foreign ministry official said.
Gen. Pervez Musharraf also assured U.S. Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns Pakistan would not waver in its support for Washington's war on terrorism, the foreign ministry official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the record.
The comments were the first publicized reaction by Musharraf to the Jan. 13 attack on the village of Damadola that apparently targeted but missed Ayman al-Zawahi, al-Qaida's No. 2.
Musharraf met Burns at his office in Rawalpindi, a garrison city near the capital Islamabad.
The strike last week on three homes in the Bajur tribal region village is believed to have killed at least four of al-Zawahri's close associates and at least 13 civilians, including women and children. The village is close to the border with Afghanistan.
The official said Musharraf told Burns: "What happened in Bajur must not be repeated."

Of course it can't be repeated - they're dead, Jim.
Yeah, ok, whatever....(refuel and re-arm the Predators)
So, when are they going to turn over OBL & Co.?
Can, Should, Will, Refuel, Reload, Re-launch...
We promise not to kill the same terrorists again.
A dilemma. Pakistan is nominally an ally in the war on terror. It's also a sovereign nation. We have a problem. We want to take out terrorists, and an ally says we can't do that in their country without permission.
So, what do we do? It's really easy to say to heck with Pakistan...let's roll. It's also a mistake. We need to be able to move in Pakistan and we need their assistance.
It's my opinion that we need to consult with Pakistan before conducting this type of raid there.
Agree in principle, but what if we know where UBL is and they say we can't mount a raid or an attack? At some point we need to let these countries know that giving sanctuary to our enemies cancels the usual niceties. Had we told them about this raid I suspect the odds of the targets being there would have been zero.
Next time don't leave any witnesses.
Thanks for posting the pic. Something like this has become my mental image of the so-called Muslim World.
Waving signs in Arabic and screaming like a lunatic.
Makes me glad I've got an army.
Like hell....we get another bead on Zawahiri or Binny....they get a visit from Captain Predator and his hellfire buddies.
Like the Navy Seal said on TV the other day. Can't remember the show and they did keep his identity a secret, but he said the problem is too many layers in the chain of command before a strike can be executed. He said these guys don't stand around waiting to be hit. Most, if not all of these targets would be gone today if the war was waged without regard to politics.
I think this is all semantics, I think Pakistan gave us the info on the terrorist gathering, I think they knew we were going to bomb the site and I think Mushareff is only playing to the media to cover his a$$ with the radicals in his country.
Yeah ... right.
When the SHTF one can only hope our "friends" the Packrats will get ther fair share of mushrooms.
Want to bet?
I wanna bet that most of the arm-chair generals here have no idea of what our administration is really doing with our ally, Pakistan.
It is amusing tho, to see schoolboys faking bravado.
I hope we told him that if he would do his job of fighting terrorism in his country, we wouldn't have to do it again.
