The following "Letter from the Editors" (printed in the program for last night's event) set the tone for the entire evening:"...Many people say that this a politically apathetic campus.Well, they certainly got THAT part right! They say that LMU students don't care don't care about worldly issues. The critics believe that this evening will be a failure. They think that students won't show up for this once in a lifetime event. They think that we wont't be mature enough to allow the speakers to express their views. They don't think that this university is ready to join the elites.
But on Thursday night, we the student body of LMU will once again prove our critics wrong.
The university is having an awakening, and this event will be an indication of what's to come.
We will greet two of the biggest names in politics with dignity and respect
..."It must be a RELIGIOUS school thing. :o)If last night's event was a test, LMU passed with flying colors! Not only did they prove that they had good manners, they turned out in MUCH LARGER numbers than the nay-sayers had predicted, completely overwhelming the tiny venue chosen this FIRST of what now may be MANY similar events.
Both Ann and the Serpenthead seem to have been surprised by the very different (i.e., thoughtful, and RESPECTFUL) kind of audience that they encountered last night during their "back-to-back" appearances at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles last night, which were part of "First Ammendment Week," sponsored by the LMU student newspaper, the Loyolan.
Not sure about Carville, but I understand that Ann generally encounters a MUCH DIFFERENT reception on a OTHER college campi -- where she has had to deal with pie-throwing goons, and disruptors blasting loud music through the PA system during her speech, to drown out her voice.
Our small group of FReepers (and FRiends of Ann) who were able to get inside saw virtually NO protestors outside, and only TWO (rather lame) attempts to heckle her inside...More soon.
...is that you have to buy ALL FOUR parts of that "Speakers Series" -- at $225 per person -- just to see her squash Al Franken like a bug.It may be possible, however, to arrange for some ALTERNATIVE way to see Ann when she is in L.A. in March......since she will have MORE TIME, as her new book will allready be on its way to the publishers. We are WORKING on it. :o)
Carvilles got a face like he has played in one too many rugby matches.
Ann is still a cutie, but in that pic she's showing her age a bit.Bite your TONGUE!
Ann still look FABULOUS -- in person! It was all the harsh lighting -- from the lights which were designed for playing BASKETBALL!Carville also looked more ghastly than usual -- see above. :o)
It may just be the lighting but Carvel's face looks thin the kind of look that people with wasting diseases get.See my post 83, above -- about the harsh (basketball court) lighting.I mainly disagree with him and he does come up with some tough-nut arguments but I worry for anyone who is sick.
...the harsh (basketball court) lightingFrom the pre-FReep thread, that would be THIS place:
Rec Center Back Court-Burns
This facility is located on the 2nd floor of the Burns Recreation Center. This large basketball court can be converted into any set up style desired. | |
Maximum Capacity | 500 (theater style) |
Square Feet | 6784 |
Carville's got a face like he has played in one too many rugby matches.LOL!
It's all the meanness in his SOUL, now manifesting itself in his BODY, imho.
Ann still look FABULOUS -- in person!O.K., I was posting rapidly, in anger. :o)
That obviously SHOULD have been:
Ann still looks FABULOUS -- in person!
You do have a point. Gymnasium lighting is never flattering.
I'll take it back!
:o)
YUCK. That is a "LEFT" handed compliment if I ever heard one.I agree.More of a lust-based insult.
I was not even going to post about that guy, but since Clark did, I thought that I would comment on it.
Sorry that we could not invite YOU to this event, either. Here is the link that classic "Ann Coulter" thread:I had to keep this event REALLY quiet -- which as you know, is a HUGE challenge for someone with my personality -- but we had no other choice, beacuse of the tiny venue, and the university's adversion to inviting the general public.
NEXT time, however -- in March -- we intend to find a BETTER way to allow FReepers to interact with Ann, like we did the LAST time that she was out here. :o)
NEW photos!

NEXT time, however -- in March -- we intend to find a BETTER way to allow FReepers to interact with Ann, like we did the LAST time that she was out here. :o)This SHOULD be relatively easy to do, since she will have a little more free time for us in March, as her new book will be finished by then.
And, she SHOULD be a lot less apprehensive about how good our security will be, since we now have a TRACK RECORD for hosting an incident-free, successful event -- like the one at "Level One" after her "Late, Late Show" taping. And, ever since the "pie-throwing," "boom box disrupting" encounters at her recent public appearances, she now travels with a BODYGUARD -- to protect her, not from US, but from anyone who might find out about where we intended to meet Ann, and try to cause trouble.
Plus, we can always invite her friends with the MARINE CORPS (above) back, to provide a little EXTRA security for that potential future meeting. :o)
...she now travels with a BODYGUARD -- to protect her, not from US, but from anyone who might find out about where we intended to meet Ann, and try to cause trouble...
But it is good that people listened politely and respectfully to both.You got THAT right!I often think that the one thing that defeats the left is when we can get people to actually listen to what they are saying;
the Dems have had some talented operatives and bomb throwers, but when folks will actually LISTEN and think about what they are saying THEN they realize that the only things Clinton did that worked were stolen from the Republicans, etc...
It WAS a challenge, however, for those of us non-LMU students -- who are by our natures a little less well-mannered -- not to jeer and harass Mr. Carville. :o)
We were VERY restrained -- for the most part.Except that Jeffers could not prevent himself from coughing out a muffled "bullsh!t" when Carville was ranting on and on about the wonderful "Clinton economy."
Great report -- thanks for sharing. Thanks, Angelwood!
I learned just about everything that I know from the "Masters of the FReep" - here:www.DCchapter.com
P.S. But I still like you, Ron. LOL.
There used to be crosses in every classroom and some of the priests started class with prayer,Wow.I hope that is still the case.
That's GREAT! And right in the heart of secular Los Angeles, too!
Let's hope that the government folks with L.A. County don't find out, though. :o)
Though Stewart's line is a bit simpler: Mess-O-Potamia
Let's hope that the government folks with L.A. County don't find out, though. :o)See also, from www.LAcounty.info:
After how she trashed Harriet Miers and Judge Roberts I don't think highly of her.I understand.
MANY posters on this forum were disappointed with Ann's TACTICS, even if they agreed with her MISSION: insuring a conservative, "originalist" Supreme Court -- during this "once in a generation" opportunity to correct the many unfortunate PAST appointments.
The current composition of the Supreme Court is just TOO IMPORTANT to take any chances, so I understand Ann's PASSION about it.And, Justice Alito -- with his extensive public record supporting conservative principles -- is MUCH less likely to become another "Souter" than the relatively untested (at least in any PUBLIC forum) Harriet Miers, right?
(Politics is a contact sport, and the RATs have made the judicial system EXTREMELY political, as their last chance to force their agenda upon the rest of us.
We CANNOT let them win.)
