He's right about Reagan, but the party politics may be a little more complicated. The Republicans are the party of lower taxes, but apparently less spending depends on strong party competition, not just on electing one party over the other.
I know what you mean. I totally disagree. Poltiics has always been a hardball proposition. Since the days of Coolidge, Eisenhower, Goldwater and Reagan, the GOP leadership has always been for limited govt and tax reform. Not for bigger government. Reagan had to deal with a Democrat controlled House and Speaker Tip O'Neill. Bush is the leader of the majority party in America. Hastert and Frist lead the Congress. What more can you ask for. Where is the fiscal responsibility on spending conservatives are demanding? Nowhere to be found. That is pathetic leadership.
