Dunno about these days, but when I was a teenager and a college student, I was doin' a lot of the jobs illegals do. I mowed lawns, worked as a handyman at a country club and an "assisted living facility", worked as a security guard, washed dishes, worked in the store room at restaurant, etc.
I have to believe that there are folks who will do the jobs if the price is right.

I can only tell you about first hand experience. We run ads for Janitors in apartment buildings and don't indicate what the pay will be. We almost never get a call from a native born American. In real estate construction in this large Midwestern city you can't find native born Americans at the entry level jobs.
I had the same experience you did doing odd jobs growing up. The youth today don't have the same work ethic in my area of the country.

There are young Americans who would do the jobs. Not only for the right price, but if they could even have a prayers chance of being hired. Look through the paper, most jobs require bi-lingual Spanish speaking applicants. That eliminates a lot of American workers.
They wouldn't need to be bi-lingual if they would hire legal citizens.
