Preaching from the Koran IS preaching murder.

mohammad was a murdererous, illiterate, delusional, child molester.

And anyone who believes what he wrote is an idiot.

some of the cleric’s “offensive” statements were drawn directly from Islam’s holy book.

Thereby confirming the perception that Islam itself is "offensive."

“It is said he was preaching murder, but he was actually preaching from the Koran itself.”

"I’m not sure this is much of a defense."

Great Defensive Strategy: The KORAN made me do it!

This is really not too far from prosecuting someone quoting the Bible about homosexuality for a "hate crime".

Well, there you have it. If the koran says it, it must be so!

Well, as far as freedom of speech goes, I personally draw the line at inciting violence. If he was really inciting murder then he could be in trouble. Condemning homosexuality as a sin isn’t over that line.

British law on freedom of speech is unclear because there’s no equivalent of the first amendment. Inciting violence may well get you in trouble. Attacking races might too. I guess we’ll find out once this and the Nick Griffin (BNP leader) trials have concluded.

Hamza himself said MI5 told him that his preaching was ok on freedom of speech grounds as long as there’s no “blood on the streets”. Well now there has been blood on the streets he might find that freedom retroactively denied.

Sounds right. They tried to read some of the portions of the Koran about women at the trial, and the Complainant claimed she was being Vilified by hearing it. Absolutely insane.

“It is said he was preaching murder, but he was actually preaching from the Koran itself.”

Is there a difference? No. How often have we heard., "I support the troops but not the war". And, "I voted for funding the war before I voted against it". It is but it isn't. Depends on what the meaning of 'is', is. Also, "no legal controlling authority". Hmmm, I wonder, is there an illegal controlling authority?

What is the legal or illegal controlling authority for: "We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."?

Just because Hamza used the Quran as a defense doesn't mean he will be exonerated.

At the Nuremberg trials several Nazis used the defense: "I was just doing my job." Rightly so, they were not exonerated. Though I'm sure there were sympathizers -- perhaps the New York Times.

This case may set a huge precendent as to the use of the Quran (i.e. preaching from the Quran isn't allowed to the extent it encourages breaking the law). Muslims will find that outrageously insulting to their dirty little book.

Interesting.

Maybe since this "religion" advocates murder it should not be considered a religion and it's tax free status revoked. That''l put a bite on the funding for terrorists.

So what are the Koran quotes? The article gives none.

Hadith quotes don't count.

sO IF YOUR 'RELIGION' IS DEVIL-WORSHIP AND YOU HAND OUT COPIES OF THE NECRONOMICON, THEN YOU CAN COMMIT ANY CRIME YOU WANT?

Oh please, the Necronomicon is far safer to read than the koran. ;p

In Canada, isn't reading from the Bible now considered a hate crime?
