Reconstruction Continues in Iraq

ELECTRICAL SECTOR:

1,500,000 residents of Basrah and potentially all Iraqi Citizens have more reliable power with the installation of Units #5 and #6 at the Khor Az Zubayr Power Plant together producing 250 MW to the national electrical grid.

The completion of underground feeder lines in Baghdad, Erbil, and Mosul cities will mean more reliable power to approximately 1,000,000 people.

The 150,000 people of Mashru, Al-Noor, and Al-Askary, Babil Province now have power to distribution kiosks (on-ground transformers) that the Ministry of Electricity will use to complete the connection of the surrounding homes and businesses to the grid.

More than 50,000 residents of Al-Hindiya, Karbala Province, and Mahawil, Babil Province now have more reliable power to their homes with the installation of 3km of distribution line, repairs to the lines, and three new 630kVA transformers.

Another 30,000 people living in Erbil, Erbil Province, now have reliable power to the local distribution network with the installation of 5km of electrical feeder lines providing power to a newly constructed 33/11kV substation.

20,000 residents of Mahalla 701 in 9 Nisan, Baghdad Province, now have electricity to their homes with completed upgrades to the existing system.

PUBLIC WORKS AND WATER:

Another 1,500,000 residents in Abu Skheer and Basrah, Basrah Province and Mamoudiya, Baghdad Province, now have a reliable water supply with the installation of 16km of water distribution mainline and repairs to approximately 800 leaks/breaks in the main water distribution line.

Approximately 100,000 people in Mansour, Baghdad Province, now have a dependable, effective source for the proper removal of sewerage with the rehabilitation of two sewer lift stations.

Five new water treatment units, 20 km of new distribution lines, and the installation of nine generators providing power to water treatment units between Al Anbar, Baghdad, Diyala, Maysan, Najaf, and Ninewa Provinces, has benefited over 75,000 Iraqi citizens with access to fresh water, many of them for the first time in their lives.

People in rural Ninewa Province who only had limited water now have a reliable source of fresh, clean water with the installation of 14 new wells. These wells will benefit 12,000 residents.

More than 8,000 residents in Mansour, Baghdad Province now have fresh, clean, potable water with the completed renovations to a local water treatment plant.

Thousands of Iraqi Citizens will enjoy a cleaner environment in 9 Nisan, Baghdad Province as three new solid waste transfer stations are complete.

Capacity Development: Women’s sector/Women’s initiatives trained 105 mid and senior level women of the Municipalities and Public Works and Water Resources Ministries. Topics included Budget and Finance for Utilities, Auto Cad, English as second language and a Leadership/Management Train the Trainer for a total of 4,900 hours.
Conducted six week long capacity development workshops for 132 Ministry of Municipality and Public Works personnel in areas of operations and maintenance; water system master planning, finance and administration; project management and communications and public awareness

FACILITIES AND TRANSPORTATION(COMMUNICATION, HEALTH, EDUCATION AND BUILDING):

Over 7,000,000 of the residents of Baghdad Province now have a high tech data and voice system that provides “911” coverage in their city with the completion of the Advanced First Responder Network. The residents of Baqubah, Diyala Province, numbering over 350,000, now have increased access to quality, primary healthcare with the completed renovation of the Baqubah General Hospital and the Baqubah Maternity-Child Hospital.

3 newly refurbished school in Kirkuk and Al-Anbar Provinces will provide a better learning environment and a brighter future for 1,190 students. The future looks brighter for over 12,500 children of all ages with the completed renovation/construction of eleven schools in Al-Anbar, Basrah, Baghdad, Dahuk, Najaf, and Qadisiyah Provinces.

The completed construction of Primary Healthcare Centers in the Districts of Kadamiyah, 9 Nisan, Sadr City, and Husseiniya, in Baghdad Province will provide increased health care and daily outpatient services to 140,000 people annually. The completed repairs and paving of over 22km of roadway and safety repairs to a bridge between Baghdad and Basrah Provinces will provide more than five million local residents with easier traffic flow, less congestion, and a safer, more reliable roadway. A newly renovated police station headquarters in Babil Province will allow it’s 135 officers and employees control security operations throughout the province benefiting at least 100,000 citizens.

Thousands of residents in Ninewa, Najaf, Diyala, Kirkuk, and Baghdad Provinces now enjoy better access routes to markets in larger towns and safer driving conditions with the paving of 73 km of road.

Three renovated railroad stations in Qadisiyah Province and the renovation of a large railroad station in Babil Province will provide protection from the environment for over one million passengers annually while they wait to board the train. Station Masters at these facilities now have office space from which to schedule freight pick up or drop off. Furthermore, local merchants and farmers will be able to move merchandise and produce to the larger metropolitan areas by train.

The completion of the Samawa Railroad Maintenance Facility will now enable railroad mechanics the ability to repair locomotives.
