Attempt to impose death penalty moratorium fails in Assembly

TOM CHORNEAU
Associated Press

SACRAMENTO - An attempt to impose a two-year moratorium on carrying out California's death penalty failed to pass a key Assembly committee Thursday, ending its chances for the year.

Assemblyman Paul Koretz, D-West Hollywood, vowed to revive his bill later and blamed election-year politics for its demise.

"There are enough Democrats that are worried that this would be misinterpreted - as it intentionally has been - that we made an agreement not to bring it up unless we were sure it would pass," he said after the bill, AB1121, was placed on hold by the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Bad news for rapist/murderer Morales...he's in the on-deck circle for February 21.

Great news for a year. But unfortunately Calif politics is still controlled by the queers and the communists. So they will try again next year. In the meantime going with the system it still takes a quarter of a century to execute somebody in California.

I think it is time to form committees of vigalance before the judges in Ca start giving child rapists probation or no jail sentences like in massachussettes.

Is that Michael Morales whose "jailhouse confession" earning him the special circumstance is considered suspect?

The Democrats know the salience of the crime issue. The vast majority of California voters back the death penalty. And Paul Koretz's fellow Democrats are not about to hand Republicans political ammunition in an election year. Yep, its the politics, stupid.

Assemblyman Paul Koretz

Same joker who's behind a lot of Cali gun control. Pro-criminal, anti-self-defense. Disgusting.

Not to mention the homosexual agenda legislation. Of course, being a representative for West Hollywood, that would be expected.

Wasn't that Vermont? Or did it happen in Kennedyland too?

It happened in both. Vermont got 60 days in Jail. In Mass, no jail at all.

My local Radical Liberal Rep. was quite shamelessly using this one to raise money from her district. The really bad part was how she was also promoting her efforts at "fund raising reform" by "special interests".

If this kind of pandering and grandstanding is what they have in mind on fund raising reform, they can forget it!
