"I posted your "cup of joy" over at ATRW. I recall that song when it came out.. I think it was 1970(or pretty close to it).. so silly & so much fun."
It was around 1971, Dolly, when my sons were teenagers, and played endlessly - probably why it delighted me so!
The house we rented then had a screened in & over large swimming pool with cabana right off the living room, and there were many gatherings of kids...they had so much fun dancing to it..:))
On weekends, there were always 5-6 teenage boys spending the weekend, with Mommo's Rules Strictly Followed.
The dining and living rooms were carpeted, and they sprawled out there, and were to bring their own sheets, pillows, blankets and TOWELS - and take them HOME to launder!!
I was at work every other Saturday, but they were all well behaved. They had to help the boys CLEAN THE POOL in order to keep coming back. (slave labor!)
IF they cooked, they ate, and had to do all their dishes.
They were allowed to stay up as late as they liked so long as they did not disturb The Parents (we had another tv in our bedroom) and/or the neighbors.
In Melbourne then was a radio station with a DJ you could call on air, and they often did. Sensing these boys were bright and polite, he several times invited then to go down there at 1 a.m. and be on air with them!
We gave permission, of course, and they had a great time.
It always puzzled me how the parents of the other boys were so happy to have their sons away from them, not wanting "noise."
WE wanted to know where ours were, and what they were doing!!
