I was immediately admitted to the hospital through the emergency room (well, if you call waiting for 3 hours when the progress up my arm was an inch an hour!) and placed in a single room because of the infection. They had to take the stitches out and cleaned it out again with soap and water and then an anti-bacterial solution. I just remember that they stuffed it with some kind of gauze and then came to look at it when I was eating breakfast the next morning. I personally don't recommend having pus-covered strips of gauzy material removed from your arm while eating! The surgeon gave me a 50% chance of it clearing without surgery. They put me on 2 million daily units of IV penicillin. I stayed in for three days, until it looked like it was going to go away without surgery. Thankfully, it did! Then I had to stay on the IV for a week or so after I returned home. It happened during the week that OJ killed his wife and her friend. I watched the Bronco chase from my hospital room pretty much doped up from the pain medication. Thankfully, though, I fully recovered. My prayers for our fellow freeper!
Holysmokes. The buddy of mine who got his from a softball injury (slid into 3rd and scraped his knee!) was in the hospital for a week with it. He is fully recovered now and back to work, a very physical job. Prayers for TomServo for a full recovery.
