It's not a small point. This is not much of a case for God putting peace above truth. The King James Version is translated:
"Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
"And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?"
It looks to me like the Rabbi is misquoting the Bible to promote the liberal world view.
He is doing no such thing. I'm sorry if you can't read the Bible itself and have to rely on translations (which aren't th same as the Bible itself), but the text actually says that Sarah laughed about her husband's age, but G-d changed this in his conversation with Abraham in order to preserve peace between them.
That's what it says in black-and-white. Deal with it.
I noted the " " as well, but he's paraphrasing, he's not presenting that as a translation from Hebrew. Which wouldn't follow the KJV either. His interpritation isn't traditional.
