I do hope he makes a full recovery but his life (nor his family's) will ever be the same.

Good news. But I am afraid he will have some brain damage from Carbon Monoxide though! Hopefully not much! Prayers going out to him and his family!

When I first posted, they only had the breaking news bar. Now there is more details in an article.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/01/18/miner/index.html
MORGANTOWN, West Virginia (CNN) -- More than two weeks after surviving a coal mine explosion and 40 hours trapped underground, Randal McCloy is awakening from his coma, his neurosurgeon said on Wednesday. "He is opening his eyes," said Dr. Julian Bailes. "He has purposeful movements. He responds to his family in slight ways. He moves all extremities." Bailes said McCloy remains in a "light coma," and, although doctors are optimistic, he still has "quite a ways to go" in his recovery. On Tuesday, McCloy, 26, moved out of the intensive care unit at West Virginia University Hospitals, his doctor, Larry Roberts said.

Although it may take months (or even years), stroke victims and others who have suffered damage to critical areas of the brain can experience amazing and almost unbelievable rewiring of the intricate connections in those areas.
This is a patience building experience for both the patient and loving family caregivers who must interact for a time with a person who displays almost none of his/her former personality.
As other body areas heal, prayers should be directed for this young man's restoration of mind, so that he can serve as a reminder that nothing is impossible with the Creator/Designer of that wonderful and mysterious thing we call a "brain."

Heavenly Father, we return to thank You for such wondrous news ... continue to draw out Randal unto the time of complete awareness, to the Glory and Honor of Your Name. And may it be, Merciful Father, that he will show little brain damage, if any. Continually encourage his family and his community, for lo, You are with them always, even unto the end of the age. In the Name of Jesus, we praise You, Amen ...
