WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Some of the foreigners killed in last Friday's U.S. airstrike in the remote Pakistani village of Damadola were of Egyptian origin, according to a knowledgeable source.
U.S. officials have said "very solid" intelligence indicated that senior al Qaeda members were expected to attend a dinner celebrating the end of the Muslim holiday of Eid and that Osama Bin Laden's top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, could very well be among them.
Although these officials believe a number of "significant" al Qaeda figures were killed in the attack, there is no evidence so far that al-Zawahiri was among them. Pakistani officials have said he apparently was not there.

At a minimum, this should cut down on the number of al-Qaida dinner and cocktail parties from now on.
We may have to focus on who in Pakistan is ordering Domino's Pizza delivered.
Nah, they were just tourists, off to explore a different desert;)
LOL!
Hmmmmmmmmm! ZaWa Haywire is a Egyptian.....Hmmmmmmm! We should be so fortunate!
"I think it might have been a Bat Mitzvah...the CIA reported that the Predator picked up strains of "Cotton-Eyed Joe" by Rednex"
As performed by that great Bat Mitzvah band, Henny and the Youngmans.
From the article: In addition to the militants, 18 local residents also were killed, setting off anti-American protests across Pakistan. -- Wazir said two Muslim clerics had invited 10 to 12 foreign militants to the dinner.
Guess that answers the "collateral damage" question. Invite a US-enemy terrorist over for dinner and you die.
Also from the article: U.S. sources have told CNN that the remains of about 12 bodies, including as many as eight foreigners, were quickly retrieved by a group of men after the air strike, and taken elsewhere for burial.
Wonder how we retrieved the DNA samples?
Anyway, I'm holding out hope that we got that subhuman, Zawahiri.
Next thing you know, there will be a Syrian!
Not really. The initial reports had terrorists killed, but there was no confirmation. Now we're slowly getting some confirmation.
Egyptian is good. :-)
This is unconfirmed. Cnn must provide the name of who confirmed this. "Un-named sources" do NOT cut it.
No, but several brides were killed anyway -- along with a number of children, puppies, and kittens. It's amazing that an unused artillary round (photo courtsey NY Slimes) would have done so much damage.
It was not me. Those threads have been pulled. Somebody found a way-back machine. D@mn those mirror sites.
"Have the DNA reports come in?"
The story is still being fleshed out....
Egyptian is good. :-)
Vey gute!!!! MOOOOREEEE!!!!
The CNN reporter is saying this with a lot more conviction than the Pakistani government has been able to muster.
It's clear to me that Pakistan's "official protests" are strictly pro forma, for domestic consumption, and amount to an admission that a.) they approved these strikes and b.) are cooperating with US military and intelligence in the closest fashion.
They don't want these guys hanging around in Waziristan, either.
But it had only been posted a minute or so before suspicions were raised.
"when it was determined to be a Getty photo"
So Getty gets a pass even when they have fake/misleading photos available? Did they remove it as well? Or correct it?
Just curious.
