If the way the media played this story seemed odd to you, read further to find out why.

Hassan's pappy was busted in the 80s for forging Iraqi passports and other documents, bet your local newspapers didn't cover that.

You are welcome, this piece has raised considerable ire in Islamist circles.

As usual, Big Media doesn't report the story completely.

Very, very interesting.

The whole story from his parents and him is strange. Though I'm not convinced he's a jihadist.

I dont think the authors say he is a jihadist, just that his situation can't be explained by what the lame stream media is putting out there.

The article is speculative.

No, they don't come right out and say he's a jihadist. But they're certainly making the case for it.
I too, am speculative

This article is off base from what I've seen on the reports, his family are Republican, Iraq escapees who support the liberation and the son was a quasi-protest warrior.

Well to each his own, but for me I have lotsa questions:

Why did Farris dad get busted for forging Iraqi documents?

How and why did Farris hook up with Hizbullah, and "share a laugh" with a terrorist?

Why was Farris father in the same area as his son at the same time during this trip.

There was no immersion journalism course at the school.

Nothing holds together in the conventional telling of the story.

This story WAS odd from the beginning. Never bought the altruistic youth thing either...

Yeah the whole thing was a stretch.

My guess is that it went like this, Farris gets his head filled with tales of jihad at the local mosque, most of them are bad in FLA, he goes to Iraq and kinda steps out of a dream, "oh man these guys really are bad! what the hell did I do?"

So he gets on the phone to daddy and says "hep me, I really screwed up"

And so the father concocts the cover story goes over there to make sure sunny is ok and they benefit from the whole thing publicity wise.

It never sounded right to me. Thanks so much for your investigative reporting on this family. This stinks to high heaven.

Good possibility.

OR

Sonny boy continues on his American journey, gets a top notch education, and continues along the hardline path...

Wonder if we'll ever know. Thanks for finding and posting this info. I do have more questions now, though and I'm hoping someone is keeping an "eye" on young Farris....

I never thought the story was innocent nor cute.

It seems that the media was trying to force "cute innocent, muslim" sentiments.

I was suspicious of his motives from the beginning. And now to hear that he met with Hezbollah seals it for me.

There is always the possibility, since this is speculative, that the correct explanation is the one offered by Hassan, however given the pieces which don't fit that story I think Kaufman and Rabinowitz' piece is pretty close to the truth.

We were not able to identify which Mosque he spent the night in before his journey, which might make the story even more compelling...
