He's right. And in another generation, when by sheer numbers due to procreation the Muslims overtake us, we will wish we would have taken the command to "be fruitful and multiply" serious. I only had two children. I believed a lie. If I were to do it over again, i would have had more. Too late now.
These are the kinds of heartless and broad-sweeping statements that continue to move thoughtful Christians away from organized religion. Of all the needy things he could have said....he chose this? Sad.
Thank you for such a wonderful thread.
I've enjoyed reading your post, and the replies.
Most of them are very thoughtful, and very good.
It's been a long time since I've seen a thread
that provoked so many good replies.
You're a SINNER, man! But then, so am I!
Some persons are simply not cut out for being parents and if they are capable of realizing this of themselves and do not have children they are wise. That doesn't mean they should be condemned to living single either.
Many valid reasons exist for married persons not to have children. One is a parent having a genetic disorder that would effect their children. They may not wish to see their offspring acquire the disorder. Another is the health of the mother. The mom could possibly not be able to carry a child.. The mother may have to take medications that would cause birth defects to a child. Their income may prohibit it. They may have jobs that would severely limit their time with the children for example being doctors.
Children bring happiness to many parents. Biologically I have none nor will I ever. It wasn't a matter of not wanting it was a matter of it could have killed my wife to try. I do have two step daughters I helped raise. The preacher needs to focus his energies on more pressing matters such as stopping mothers from abortions rather than laying guilt trips on ones who simply choose never to conceive to begin with.
Mohler wants to gets publicity, even if he has to come across like a nut case.
How about adding a "Hillbilly Preacher" alert to that headline?
Jesus, St. John the Apostle, St. Paul, Pope John-Paul I & II ...
Sinners all ...
Don't worry, Muslims will have all the children for us. Allahu akbar!
Besides the command to Adam in Genesis 1:28 Also...God reiterated this command to Noah after the flood. Obviously it is important to God ie, His will. The most important thing to a Christian should be to do the will of God and glorify Him.
Genesis 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
Genesis 9:7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
Lotta truth there. Can't call it a sin, though. Just people in a decadent, luxurious society doing what they eventually get around to doing - fading away.
A fatwaw by any other name is still a fatway. This joker is every bit as loony toons as the nutbar in Egypt who's afraid husbands and wives might be getting naked.
Absolutely true.
Marriage has two natural purposes, the begetting and raising of children, and the mutual care of the spouses.
A sacramental marriage builds on nature. The purpose of a sacramental marriage is not just to beget and raise children, but to prepare them for heaven. Similarly, the husband and wife work not only for the earthly good of the other spouse, but also for their eternal welfare.
A marriage may be annulled in the Catholic Church if the bride or groom enters the marriage with the intention of never having children.
I saw behind me those who had gone, and before me, those who are to come. I looked back and saw my father, and his father, and all our fathers, and in front, to see my son, and his son, and the sons upon sons beyond.
And their eyes were my eyes.
As I felt, so they had felt, and were to feel, as then, so now, as tomorrow and forever. Then I was not afraid, for I was in a long line that had no beginning, and no end, and the hand of his father grasped my father's hand, and his hand was in mine, and my son took my right hand, and all, up and down the line that stretched from Time That Was, to Time That Is, and is not yet, raised their hands to show the link, and we found that we were one, born of Woman, Son of Man, made in the Image, fashioned in the Womb by the Will of God, the Eternal Father.
I was of them, they were of me, and in me, and I in all of them."
Well, Christians should have kids.
if the unsaved people decide to remain childless, that's all the better.
Rev. R. Albert Mohler, Jr can kiss my @$$.
Is this worse than trying to split up Israel?
Sigh.
