"Latest figures from the Scottish Executive show that in 2003, 55 of 108 homicide victims were stabbed by a sharp instrument - often a kitchen knife. "
Here is where I quit reading this mindless drivel. Any question as to why? I want to know what the other 48 homicide victims were STABBED with that was not a "sharp instrument." How many people die from a stab wound inflicted by a BLUNT object? See, this is called a beating not a stabbing.

Your reading it wrong. 55 or the 108 homicides were by stabbing with a sharp instrument. "Often" the instrument in those 55 murders was a kitchen knife.
I want to know the weapons in the other 53 murders. And since guns are banned over there, clearly none were guns.

They were stabbed with pillows and coffee mugs, of course.
