Kennedy is likely to side with liberals more often than not, now that there appears to be four solid conservatives. Sad but true. Bush needs just one more opportunity to nominate, and he will have built one hell of a legacy for himself. Stevens and/or Ginsburg are definite possibilities, although I'm sure they will hang on with dear life hoping that 2008 brings a Dem or RINO president.

I agree. Health issues aside, I think there may be enough "fire" in the "left block" to stick it out to 2008. But if there is no RINO or Dem in office in 2008, look for another two maybe three retirements off SCOTUS.

If there are health issues, President Bush may get yet another pick. Important to hold the houses and maintain or improve the number of Republicans in the Senate in 2006.

If we can do that, then any health issues between now and 2008 will likely result in a conservative appointment that will also fly through the hearing process. Add to that the fact that it is no fun being in the minority..... and age.... and health, the 2008 President will likely have two nominations, possibly three.
