What I never understood was the media's blather about Alito "filling the swing vote seat." I have news for the MSM - there is no such thing.!

The SCOTUS is populated by Justices nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. There is no "red" vs. "blue" fictitious seats on the court, as if the benches they occupy have "Liberal" and "Conservative" written on the back in brass nameplates.

They vote the way they vote - period. The house of cards the media and the democrats built is pure fiction.

I agree. Health issues aside, I think there may be enough "fire" in the "left block" to stick it out to 2008. But if there is no RINO or Dem in office in 2008, look for another two maybe three retirements off SCOTUS.

If there are health issues, President Bush may get yet another pick. Important to hold the houses and maintain or improve the number of Republicans in the Senate in 2006.

If we can do that, then any health issues between now and 2008 will likely result in a conservative appointment that will also fly through the hearing process. Add to that the fact that it is no fun being in the minority..... and age.... and health, the 2008 President will likely have two nominations, possibly three.

OK, I'm going to be the unpopular one.

I think Roberts is going to be the swing vote. I don't believe he's the conservative savoir that so many FReepers think his is.

Should we be willing to give credit to the Republican side of the Group of 14 that has now IMO been proven a pretty good deal for Republican nominees?

People, people, people!!!! Are you insinuating that our Honorable Supreme Court Justices aren't all truly "honorable" men and women? Really, I am appalled...

I don’t want to be judgemental, but…

That was actually what I wished for some time ago. Not the cancer part, but for Ginsberg to be 'outta there. She has stirred up more trouble than anyone can imagine. I vote for Janice Rodgers Brown when the replacement is needed.

"Stevens is 85, it's not inconcievable (sic) that he takes a dirt nap before Bush's term is up."

Pat Robertson, is that you? :)

When you're grasping at straws, you make up constructs. If the dems get the power, eventually, we'll have a black seat, woman seat, etc.

How in the hell did Bush Sr. and Sununu choose this badly?

Simple, they don't disagree with him on most issues.

It is disgusting how the SC has become so politicized. Now you have judges "auditioning" for the swing vote? That is degrading to our Constitution.

A couple of them are OLD and in declining health. Hopefully, Bush will get another chance to nominate one more. Just to really twist the knife into the libnuts' backs. HAHAHHAAHA.

I don't think any SCOTUS justice should be a "swing voter"....they are all supposed to rule by the Constitution, not swing left or right. I'm tired of that old media "invented phrase". It's worn out like the rats' 1960s campaign playbook.

Hopefully, Bush will be able to fill another vacancy. Ideally, he'd get to fill multiple vacancies before his term is up.

If he brings them out one right after the other, that'll make the leftist pointed heads swim.

Ginsburg has undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment for colon cancer. I believe she is now cancer free.

Ginsburg is 72 (March 15, 1933)

Stevens is 86 (April 20, 1920)

Anthony Kennedy is 70 (July 23, 1936)

If Stevens ever were a real republican and had even an ounce of loyalty in him, he'd resign right now and give a repub president the chance to replace him. There is little doubt that he'll not last into the next presidency whoseever that might be.
