N.Y. lawmaker compares GOP-run House to a ‘plantation’

NEW YORK - Sen. Hillary Clinton on Monday blasted the Bush administration as “one of the worst” in U.S. history and compared the Republican-controlled House of Representatives to a plantation where dissenting voices are squelched.

Speaking during a Martin Luther King Jr. Day event, Clinton also offered an apology to a group of Hurricane Katrina survivors “on behalf of a government that left you behind, that turned its back on you.”

Her remarks were met with thunderous applause by a mostly black audience at the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ in Harlem.

The House “has been run like a plantation, and you know what I’m talking about,” said Clinton, D-N.Y. “It has been run in a way so that nobody with a contrary view has had a chance to present legislation, to make an argument, to be heard.”

“We have a culture of corruption, we have cronyism, we have incompetence,” she said. “I predict to you that this administration will go down in history as one of the worst that has ever governed our country.”

A spokeswoman for the White House declined to comment and referred questions to the Republican National Committee.

Now there's a cop-out for you. This idiot craps, spits, and walks all over our people with such an outrageous statement, and the White House "declines to comment"? by being trying to be 'gentlemanly'?. These guys will never learn!

Ah, yes, comparing slavery to "squelching opposition" (which doesn't seem to phase her). This is like comparing the Holocaust to...whatever it is the Left is comparing the Holocaust to these days. Will she get called on this? What do you think?

blasted the Bush administration

For those that haven't heard this yet, it was more like the screech of a turkey vulture, eyes popping out - the whole thing.  It's going to be commercial fodder in '08.

“has been run like a plantation, and you know what I’m talking about,”

Uh, actually no they don't know what you are talking about. You see none of the audience have ever lived on a plantation nor have any been a slave. The comment was unrealistic and the applause condescending and ignorant.

She is subconscienciously referring to the Democrat Party........no conservative blacks allowed......no anti-abortion opinions allowed.....no anti-gay thoughts allowed.

She is not too smart!!

I have to share this little story with Freepers - I was walking to the 59th Street Bridge in Manhattan Friday night and I saw outside an office buiding an anti-war protest with a big banner saying "Bring the Troops Home". So of course I ignored it and didn't pay any attention until I heard then shouting out "BRING OUT TROOPS HOME - DON'T VOTE FOR HILLARY"! Apparently Hillary is all over the place - she's trying to play to the ultra Left and to the middle. She can't have it both ways and this is going to backfire on her.

"Yawnnnnnnnnn Same stuff different day..."

My 4 year old granddaughter often says, "that would scare me out of my wits", that explains how I would feel if hillary clinton came close to being president of this great country.
I don't believe it could ever happen, it is obvious she does.

That's all these liberal idiots CAN do.

They don't have an original thought between the lot of them and that's why they will keep losing elections.

Peter King: Hillary Clinton Playing 'Cheap Racial Politics'

House Homeland Security Committee chairman Peter King accused Sen. Hillary Clinton on Monday of playing "cheap racial politics" when she said at a Martin Luther King Day tribute that the GOP-controlled House of Representatives was run like a "plantation."

"It's wrong to use the word 'plantation' in any political context because it's cheap racial politics," Rep. King told WMAL Washington, D.C. radio host Steve Malzberg. "But to do it on Martin Luther King Day is really disgraceful."

King said the former first lady was clearly trying to paint the GOP as "slaveowners." "It's a cheap way to throw race in and to somehow call Republicans racist and then be able to duck it later on if people call her on it," he told Malzberg.

The New York Republican accused Mrs. Clinton of trivializing the King Day commemoration, saying, "there are certain things that go beyond the pale and you know they're wrong and it speaks for itself and this is one of those cases."

Rep. King, however, was even more upset at former Vice President Al Gore, who earlier in the day had accused President Bush of repeatedly breaking the law by wiretapping terrorists without a court order.

"To try to criminalize this in a time of war is an absolute disgrace," he complained. "As the former vice president of the United States, Gore's conduct is inexcusable."
