i heard him say that as he was growing up, he rarely ever spoke in class... he listened really well and took everything in... he said something about his grandmother speaking some dialect that he picked up ...
They spoke Gulluh ... a very old, rather melodic dialect spoken by blacks on the sea islands off the Georgia Coast.

IMHO some of Justice Thomas' reticence can probably be accredited to plain ol' shyness ... which is neither a sin nor a shame. He is well spoken ... when he speaks ... and is well worth listening to.

Thanks for the extra information. You are probably right about Thomas' shyness. Some people abbhor being the center of attention, and I suspect Thomas is one of them.
