Councilman wants to crack down on immigration law

MURRIETA ---- Councilman Doug McAllister is proposing that Murrieta become one of the first cities in California to have its Police Department enforce federal immigration laws.

McAllister is asking the council to allow Murrieta police to have the authority to be able to question suspects about their residency once they are detained or arrested. He's not getting much support from the rest of the council, though. The program is already being used in a few states and being pursued in Costa Mesa, which would be the first city in California to have an agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to enforce federal immigration laws.

I have been reading here about US citizen's concerns about Calif. illegal immigration. I applaude their work important and consider it necessary post 9-11. I have been recently told about a battle going on in Southern Calif of people trying to protect us from invasion. It is not the Minutemen, but just as needed. I don't mean to be seen as spamming this list of great patriots. There is a group that is fighting the creeping danger to us all, illegal immigration. Take a look at their battle on and off the streets of California.

that won't fly here in St.Paul or liberal sister city MPLS. the local councils bar police from asking /checking anything related to immigration status. of course the Police Chiefs claim this garners the police all kinds of support from the "immigrant communities" in solving important crimes. Of course they don't provide any examples of even one crime of note where an immigrant (legal or otherwise) has helped solve any mysterious , previously unsolvable crime.

It's encouraging to see more cities and states in the West cracking down on the foreign invasion of our nation.

The good that can come of this is that people will see that we cannot depend on government for everything.

It seems that the city council of Los Angeles has opposite wierd illegal immigration views.

Read this article: LA City Council to Minutemen: Go Home! by Leslie Radford Friday, Feb. 03, 2006, LA Times

In a stinging denunciation, the L.A. City Council goes on record against the Minutemen and Save Our State, but ices out the farmers. The Council moved Item No. 7 to second position on the agenda, effectively declaring it a consent item. The Council resolved to "include in the City’s 2005-06 State and Federal Legislative Program, SUPPORT of State or Federal Legislation denouncing and prohibiting the vigilante actions of individuals against immigrants along the border and within urban communities and enact immigration reform leading towards a path of permanent status for immigrants here now and wider legal channels for those coming in the future."

Apparently anticipating unanimous consent, Council President Eric Garcetti asked scheduled public speakers, all in support, to forego their comments. Without opposition from the council or the public, the vote was 10-0, with Ed Reyes (1st District), Dennis Zine (3rd District), Tom LaBonge (4th District), Jack Weiss, (5th District), Alex Padilla (7th District), Herb Wesson (10th District), Bill Rosendahl (11th District) Greig Smith (12th District), and Janice Hahn (15th District) present and voting in favor.++++
