The problem with your argument is that it can be taken to the point of having no individual liberties at all! With your argument, it could be deemed acceptable that there were police checkpoints monitoring travel within the US in the name of protection.
While some find the idea of government provided safety paramount (which is a fallacy to itself), myself and many others deem individual liberties to be the ideal for the world.

BTW, many find it quite reasonable for government owned STOP LIGHTS to be placed every now and then for the purpose of regulating people's travel rights.
Sometimes it's what you call something that makes all the difference.
