By GEORGE PASCOE-WATSON
THOUSANDS of third-rate cops will be sacked in a massive shake-up, David Cameron vows today. The Tory leader answered right-wing critics with plans for the biggest changes to policing for decades. He told The Sun: I want an incredibly tough anti-crime policy. DO you know a lazy copper who deserves to be dropped? Call The Sun on 020 7782 4021 or email features@the-sun.co.uk He intends to boot out useless officers and those who just serve their time to collect a cushy pension. Performance-related pay and overtime rate cuts will ensure lazy PCs dont just clock on to up their money without working for it. Mr Cameron is expecting a massive backlash from rank and file officers. But he insisted: You cant be tough on crime without being tough on the police. There are many brave policemen and women who do a brilliant job. But some people are just wrong for the job and need to be moved on. Policing is unlike any other job. They put their lives on the line daily. But it must be possible to manage the service better. Current police authorities would be disbanded with locals getting to elect their own commissioners. And the practice of barely injured PCs retiring on full sick pay will cease. In return for cops understanding, Mr Cameron will free them from paperwork and political correctness. He added: Successive Governments have avoided this because it is difficult. We have the courage to do this. And we will. |

Hopefully that means that they will be allowed to arrest people who act like these folks just a bit more quickly.

Ahh, the much loved promise of opposition leaders of whatever side to free police officers from paperwork....
File as usual under 'I'll believe it when I see it'.
