Young Marine Blasts Rep. Murtha at Town Hall Meeting (Not Marine, Soldier)
The Post Chronicle ^ | 1/14/06 | Jim Kouri

Posted on 01/14/2006 7:35:58 AM PST by RepublicNewbie

During a Town Hall meeting earlier this week Democrat Congressmen John Murtha (PA) and Jim Moran (VA) touted their call for a withdrawal from Iraq, an unexpected turn of events occurred.

Moran and Murtha continued the anti-war diatribes which included their relating talks they've had with military officers and rank-and-file troops in Iraq. Murtha has said the military is broken, morale within the ranks is poor, we need to pullout immediately, and other defeatist rantings.

Murtha had just finished his presentation during the Virginia townhall meeting, in which he added that he feared a slow withdrawal may give people the impression the US achieved victory (God forbid Americans think we're victorious), when he opened the meeting for a question and answer session.

At that point a man stood and spoke:

"Yes sir my name is Mark Seavey and I just want to thank you for coming up here. Until about a month ago I was Sergeant Mark Seavey infantry squad leader, I returned from Afghanistan. My question to you, (applause)

"Like yourself I dropped out of college two years ago to volunteer to go to Afghanistan, and I went and I came back. If I didn't have a herniated disk now I would volunteer to go to Iraq in a second with my troops, three of which have already volunteered to go to Iraq. I keep hearing you say how you talk to the troops and the troops are demoralized, and I really resent that characterization. (applause) The morale of the troops that I talk to is phenomenal, which is why my troops are volunteering to go back, despite the hardships they had to endure in Afghanistan.

. Not so simple anymore.

Sure it is, given the proclivity to call any U.S. Troop on this forum a marine , it is understandable and still wrong. Sort of like the Army armor used in Fallujah, someone else here insisted that the Army cav and tank outfits were marines. That help explain it a little better?

It would be easier if you'd pay attention. Then again someone has to bring up the rear and I'll bet that more often than not you're the straggler.

The only response from Murtha and Moran was Moran saying, "That's a comment not a question."

A shameful response!!

I did pay attention.

The poster of the thread changed the title and then reversed that and called the gentleman a Marine in his first post.

Hence my original question.

You’re the only one straggling along here.

**..."Not Marine, Soldier"...**

It's all the same to the press, just like bb guns are the same as rifles and grenades are the same as intercontential missiles.

A clip on this was shown on Fox this Morning. Hats off to the soldier. Now if we can just have this happen at every town meeting maybe the other mainstream would cover it.

I'm one of the 500 guys from 3-116 Inf (Stonewall!!!) who just got back from Afghanistan. We're assembled from all over northern VA and I'm more than 99% sure that some of us were from Moran's constituency. I dropped out of William and Mary to go over there. I'd like to confirm that no one ever saw Moran and am pretty sure that no one's family ever heard from him. Moran can rot for all I care.

Please excuse my late response. Weekends were made for Michelob...

I must confess I did not ask Sgt Seavey for his bonafides regarding his service other than having a nice conversation with him along with kristinn and a few others outside the event. I don't much care which branch they serve but to express my gratitude for their service to country.

I scanned through the rest of the thread to catch up and, MI, I also wonder why RepublicNewbie went out of his way to put "..Marine...(Not a Marine..." in the title. Unless, THAT was the original title of the article and subsequently changed. Did you ever get an answer?

Thank you for what you did for us.

If you run into Sgt Seavey from Company C please invite him to become a Freeper.
