Thank you for bringing this up. I had never heard of that Palestine film, but I immediately knew it would win as soon as they announced the nominees. Of course the Foreign Press would take the opportunity to slap down Israel. And all the American Jews clapping. The irony is too rich
While everyone here goes crazy over "Brokeback Mountain" (which I don't see as particularly political because Ang Lee doesn't seem to push a big political agenda) they say few words about the big ass kissing George Clooney is getting from Hollywood for his black & white alteration of history and his big oil bugaboo. Not to mention the crap that Spielberg is pushing. Clever boys who are connecting their history films to the Bush administration and the war on terror. Of course in the most negative way possible.
This is the real danger, not the gay equivalent of "Splendor in the Grass"

The only comfort one can get re: George Clooney and the ass-kissing the left and terrorists got last night, is that they win statuettes, we win elections. And while George Clooney is celebrating at Chateau Marmonte, GWB is packing the Supreme Court with like-minded Conservatives. Hollywood awards are a momentary thing. A week later nobody remembers who won. But elections have broad influence. So screw George Clooney and his ilk.
