Mrs. A_B and I have been trying to teach the cubs about the consequences of the choices they make in life. Our progress has been uneven, at best.
Recently, our oldest was the prop-master for a play at his school, and he and I were in a second-hand shop looking for items that might be useful. We observed a woman for whom money was clearly a concern shopping for clothes. Every exposed part of her body (and there were quite a few) sported a tattoo.
Sensing a teaching opportunity, I pointed out that this woman chose to use her money to pay for tattoos, which are quite expensive, and, as a consequence, she had to buy her clothes second-hand.
The cub asks, in that annoying voice that only teen-agers can produce, "How do you know how much tattoos cost?"
I replied, "Well, your mother's set us back a couple of hundred dollars."
He's been looking at his mother with a newfound sense of awe and respect ever since.
He's a great guy!
He loves and supports The Troops..
and recently became the Captain of The Patriot Riders, in Maine!
