A recent poll shows the born-again "moderate" Republican governor has gained back some popularity, especially in the Bay Area, and is now in a dead heat with Democratic competitors.
"Our survey demonstrates that Schwarzenegger's retreat from the more conservative rhetoric and agenda he brandished during the latter part of 2005 has paid off among middle-of-the road voters," said Melinda Jackson, director of the Survey and Policy Research Institute at San Jose State University.
The governor's job performance rating among voters in a Democrat-leaning state has climbed from 36 percent positive and 53 percent negative in September, to 40 percent positive and 51 percent negative this month.

And the trolls just keep on a-comin'...
As far as I know, McClintock has Arnold's support for Lt Gov.
Isn't that right, Dan?
Hey, I agree about working hard to help McClintock ! But tell THAT to the Ah-nold RINObot trolls spreading lies and disinformation about this courageous and principled Conservative Republican. They prefer liberal Democrats to Tom.
Arianna Huffington ! That's it ! That's who you remind me of !
BTW, I'm still waiting to hear as to where in California you currently reside, Zsa Zsa.
I'm not sure he fathered his own children ...
Not to mention Arnold coming out against it, calling its supporters "right wing crazies".
I'm sure that helped the conservative cause a great deal./s
I really don't care what anyone says about Tom or Arnold at this point. The recall is over.
I just want to defeat the dems and try to get Tom elected.
Actually, then, you would've had another problem. Ah-nold would've won the vote for replacing Davis, but the recall itself would've failed.
and they even use FR mail to coordinate their divisive attacks and insult campaigns.
I figured they wouldn't use FReepmail, but rather standard email or "live chat" messenging or boards.
You just hit 'em so hard it was like a danged car wreck where their shoes and even their danged socks came off from the dynamic shockwaves of your truthfilled reply!!!
Them people wanna travel under the same tent as us so they'll look reasonable, yet they're afraid that Conservatives don't look as suave and sophisticated as they imagine they should so they put out ALL that SOPHISTRY in an attempt to make themselves look like the smartest, most moderate pipples on FR!!!
You absolutely NAILED 'EM!!! Ha Ha Ha!!!
Does he ? The problem is trusting liberals, they always have a hidden agenda. I still smell the potential recruitment of Carly Fiorina into the race as a sandbag tactic by the liberal RINOs.
If only it were as easy as that. We have to get McClintock past the RINO gauntlet, ready to destroy him for the general, as you can see by all the Anti-McClintock hate in this thread.
Maybe. But that logic assumes that a fair percentage of McClintock voters also voted to recall Davis. There is anecdotal evidence to the contrary in our archives.
During the time the petitions were being circulated for signatures many conservatives and the CAGOP wanted Davis to remain in office and actively worked to quell the revolt.
I think Tom and Arnold have worked together and well, for years. That's my take. I look forward to seeing how the next election in CA not only lines up; but how it plays out. I've seen some phenomenally deft moves going on.
LOL, I got some ilk FRmail accidently once. Whadda hoot!
Yes. It is significant. But it is not 19% refusing to vote--it is a 19% DROP in those supporting him (to 50% now). IMO, it is the most significant part of the Survey, of which this thread was the subject. Unfortunately, those avid Arnold supporters do not want to let it be known that only 50% of the Republicans now support Arnold. This whole thread has done everything possible to avoid discussion of the subject.
I will repost the excerpt below:
Support for Schwarzeneggers re-election has dropped since September when 36% of voters said they would vote for the governor and 49% said they would vote against him. This reflects the growing disapproval among the governors Republican base, 69% of whom said they would vote to re-elect him in September, versus only 50% now. You're not missing anything. He's got his mindset all wrapped around that old axle that the only reason Reagan ever got elected was due to his celebrity status... Not because of his fabulous conservative ideas!!!
He then equates this mistakenly with Schwartzensmugger who ONLY has celebrity and nothing much else!!!
Then he gets all pist at McClintock for even bothering to follow the natural progression of political endeavor because he's too much of a policy wonk and not a beautiful smiley celebrity with star power that overwhelms everything... Even good sense amongst the voters of this star-struck State!!!
I don't think people have become more liberal. I think they are catching their breaths.
Or, as has been pointed out elsewhere -- conservatives are moving out of state and being replaced with "voters" who will vote for the "socialist" agenda.
So, yes, perhaps you are right.
After the Kennedy debacle I think Wilson will have a hard time forcing the CAGOP to actively sabatage a conservative. The Wilson gang may well insert Fiorina into the primary race at the eleventh hour, just as they did with Schwarzenegger during the recall, but the CAGOP now has options and are well aware of the results to expect from the gang's antics.
A CA Guy makes more sense than you do in your posts.
