Despite all the huffing and puffing against Judge Sam Alito by Sen. Kennedy and others on the Judiciary Committee, public opinion seems solidly behind him. A random poll taken Jan. 10-12 by Public Opinion Strategies showed 70 percent of women and 71 percent of men said Judge Alito should not be disqualified from Supreme Court service, even if it turns out he is pro-life on abortion. Thirty-four percent of those surveyed claimed to be pro-choice on abortion. And even among these Americans, a 53 percent majority said Alito's position on abortion should not disqualify him. "Our poll clearly shows that a majority of Americans, whether they are women or men, pro-life or pro-choice, [Democrat or Republican], regular church attenders or [who] almost never go, do not believe a Supreme Court nominee should be disqualified if [he is] pro-life," said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List which sponsored the poll. "The majority of Americans," she said, want judges who will interpret the laws "passed by the people and their elected representatives. They don't want judges making up laws from the bench."
All the RAT huffing and puffing was in vain.
As Charles Krauthammer said on Special Report tonight, "It was all over when Mrs. Alito wept."
President Bush has fulfilled his campaign promise to nominate Constitutionalists to the bench, and it is exactly what the American people want.
Off to watch a Hart to Hart with Mr. Oh.... Good night, all!
Sorry about being away so long, thanks for holding down the Fort :-)
