Absolutely!
These "war heroes" put their "combat service" out in front and rode that reputation into Congress for decades.
Any Marine worth his salt would be proud to have the world see their war record. I AM!

We got to choose our battles wisely, IMO.
Afternoon K,
If he has nothing to hide sign the 180. Why should he be afraid of the truth unless he is a bonafide liar like kerry.
One should never have to ask for an award their heroism/actions should stand on it's own merit.
This individual may have been a Marine, but like Lucy, he's got some splainin to do.
His is a phoney like Kerry and just because of his rank and branch does not eliminate him from being a liar/fraud.
Sign the 180 fatboy your status as a marine does not impress me. The truth will stand by itself.
Saying What Needs To Be Said,

My uncle's two purple hearts from Vietnam were sent along with his remains to my grandmother. It was no secret that politically motivated individuals from blue blood families could do a quick tour over there and then come right back to the States with a few medals in tow. At least during WWII the soldiers that wanted to leave were man enough to shoot themselves in the leg or arm instead of making up some BS about ricochets and shrapnel.
Thank you. That is exactly what I think. Why on earth would he not release his military records? I just cannot understand that? Also, with Kerry? Just release the records. Everyone should be proud of their service.
I have no problem asking these types of questions, however, I must wonder if Murtha is even worth the time.

Right on Marine---just say any 'honest serviceman' would be proud to show his records---my 5 years during WW2 and after don't show me as any hero and I never claimed to be--just because I served at Normandy on 6/6/44, and for some time thereafter, with a Flotilla of 60 US Coast Guard cutters (wood hulled and carrying 2000 gal of gas for fuel)certainly doesn't give me bragging rights to set myself up a any type of 'war hero'--fact that that CG Rescue Flotilla 1 saved 1438 men and 1 woman during the landings time does prove we were worth the effort---Murtha is just like many phoney's who may have been in service but blow it up for their own profit later on---hell, I cut my leg on the engine room ladder during enemy action but never even thought of asking for a medal--then again, I am not a slimey "demonrat" lookin for my 15 minutes of glory by bashing our President and spitting on the men and women in harms way---can't say in polite society what I really think of his kind other than 'traitor' and 'scum of the earth' (then, that is really a true Rat designation after all)
Great point Kelly, any USMC vet would be proud to show his record. BTW What's the harm in asking him about the three different stories? That's the issue, not the wounds per se, but his varying explanations that are key.
Thanks for your excellent response. This issue should be left up to Marines like yourself, who served honorably. Marines, who would sign the 180 with a moment's hesitation. The rest of us should stay out of this Marine situation.

Going down this road could open an interesting can of worms. I returned from my second trip to Iraq last week. There are guys in my unit with Purple Hearts for which most of us are hard-pressed to recall what "wounds" they were given out for. Some are extremely questionable - one guy had temporary hearing loss from an IED that detonated near him; one guy got a tiny cut (I guess "laceration" sounds more impressive) when a VBIED detonated against our patrol base; one guy had a ricochet hit his elbow pad (not his elbow) - I suppose it caused a bruise - and there are lots of others. A few guys are getting Purple Hearts because they were in vehicles that were struck by IEDs and they were "shaken up" and sent to the Foward Aid Station as a precaution, to make sure nothing was wrong. There are some high-ranking officers with Purple Hearts that many of us find ourselves scratching our heads over.
When we start belittling the Purple Hearts for Murtha and questioning whether he deserves them, there are going to be hundreds, if not thousands, of current OIF and OEF veterans who will be quick to notice that Murtha is equally deserving as they are. I'm curious what the reaction will be.
I agree. If you're going to ride your war record and hero status to the public trough of Congress, then let's see the real records.
