It's interesting that they were late because Bush prolonged their private conversation (he said he had asked everyone else to leave the room while they talked.) Merkel speaks fluent English although she naturally chose to speak in German during the news conference. This is probably the beginning of a very good, cordial, frank, and cooperative relationship.
Exactly my thougts. Especially that the President made some really funny comments (even about Schröder) is a good sign. The climate must have been excellent. Bush has a friend in Berlin, and Merkel one in Washington. Considering that both will be in office for the next three years, this gives hope!
