I think that the wording of the article may be a bit misleading. My understanding is that the Owl Club was "forced" to admit women if they wanted to remain affiliated with the University. I believe the club then severed ties with the University rather than admit women and that they remain an all-male club today. The wording of the article could suggest that they admitted women when forced to do so. I don't think that is the case. They would have had to admit women only to remain affiliated with Harvard. They chose not to do so, which says a lot about how "inclusive" they really wanted to be.

To me, the Owl Club isn't as big of a deal as Senator Byrd. For heaven's sake, Kennedy is in the Democratic party with a guy who was a member of the KKK! And he's worried about the viewpoints of Judge Alito's associates???

Good Catch.

I read into the story that Kennedy and The Owl Club decided to let in women, not that Teddy and The Owl Club decided to leave Harvard's umbrella so as to continue to prohibit women...

Big Difference.
