Close. Roberts was nominated to replace the retiring O'Connor. Rhenquist passes away, and President Bush quickly puts Roberts ro be confirmed in the vacant spot, and O'Connor agrees to sit on the bench a while longer until a replacement (was Miers, now Alito) is confirmed.
The left had no problem with Roberts because O'Connor is still on the bench. The left doesn't want to let go of O'Connor any time soon, so hence all this badgering of Alito's record, his wife, and his character.
Alito has been more open and forthcoming than Roberts, Bork, or Ginsburg were, but that doesn't seem to be enough for the Democrats.
The Democrats are all about "stall".
Like I said to Mo1, we agree.
