DNA Tests Confirm Executed Va. Man Guilty

RICHMOND, Va. -- A new round of DNA tests that death penalty opponents believed might finally prove that an innocent man was executed in the United States confirmed instead that Roger Keith Coleman was guilty when he went to the electric chair in 1992.

In a case closely watched by both sides in the death penalty debate, Gov. Mark Warner announced that genetic testing on semen proved Coleman committed the 1981 rape and murder of his sister-in-law, Wanda McCoy.

Coleman went to his death proclaiming his innocence, and a finding that he was unjustly executed would have been explosive news that almost certainly would have had a powerful effect on the public's attitude toward capital punishment. Death penalty opponents have argued for years that the risk of a grave and irreversible mistake by the criminal justice system is too great to allow capital punishment.

Roger Coleman was not only a vicious murderer...he was a liar to his dying breath.

But Tookie was telling the truth, of course...

Nah, that he may be "innocent" gets the cover. That his guilt has once again been confirmed merits nothing more than page A17.

And that's the end of Mark Warner's first presidential campaign issue. Good.

I am somewhat concerned about Warner as a candidate, and mentioned this to a Dem friend who is very political. I asked him if Warner was Bill Clinton, Part II. He said Warner was more like Jimmy Carter, Part II.

The media's reaction had the DNA proved his innocense:

INNOCENT MAN KILLED. END ALL DEATH SENTENCES NOW!!!

The media's reaction now that he is proven guilty:

Yeah, I'll buy the issue where it appears on the front cover that this guy lied all the way to the chair.

"Obviously, one case does not in any way reflect on the correctness of the other 1,000 executions we've had in the last 30 years," said Peter Neufeld, co-founder of the Innocence Project. "Other governors should take their lead from Governor Warner and do post-execution testing in their cases, because ... there's no reason not to _ it's all about getting to the truth."

And Peter Neufeld should foot the bill for the test if like in this case they prove the verdict was correct.

James McCloskey, executive director of Centurion Ministries, had been fighting to prove Coleman's innocence since 1988. The two shared Coleman's final meal together _ cold slices of pizza _ just a few hours before Coleman was executed

McCloskey, you've squandered 16 years and untold sums of money on this murderer simply because you are gullable and a horrible judge of character. He was laughing at you for years before his death. I suggest you find a deep hole and pull the top in over yourself. And take your "Centurion Ministries (what ever the hell that is) with you.

Can you imagine what a FOOL this guy must feel like tonight?

Roger Coleman was not only a vicious murderer...he was a liar to his dying breath.

I well recall the run-up to this guy's execution. "The usual suspect" (ie; Mike Farrell) breathlessly exclaimed to the then Governor (Doug Wilder iirc), that "new evidence" was forthcoming to prove Coleman's innocence. That evidence? Coleman denying that he'd done the crime (he had previously confessed to it). Some evidence, that was...

Warner doesn't have a chance. He doesn't quite cut it. Only Bill Clinton was slick enough to get way with whatever he did.

Thank God that Bill Clinton was one in 10 billion.

Wait a minute...

A convicted murderer LIED?

What possible reason would he have to lie?

Just to save his own ass from execution? Absurd.

Think, man.
