In fact, what he did was point out her position in the government and note that she was a member of some Communist front groups. (I believe it was three of them.) In fact, she was a member and they were front groups. But the press was so eager to destroy the anti-Communist cause that they took up the likes of Dorothy Franklin.
Now, some years later, somehow, Franklin weaseled her way into a spot in one of Scoop Jackson's campaigns. That great right-winger Nelson Rockefeller publicly asked why Jackson was employing a former Communist on his campaign.
