I remember a plane ride with Teddy and his crew and the press on board during his limp presidential campaign. The senator was bombed and acting like a fool. Even the press was aghast (although they were probably as loaded as he was).

They reported it. Kennedy may have been the reason Carter decided to run in the first place. According to an account I read Carter decided to run after seeing the personal behavior, including drunkenness of some of the proclaimed favorites.
