"THE MAN"?

Well, my father uses the phrase, "The Man," a lot and sometimes I do. I guess on some things, I'm a cynic like he is, well, it is a required trait to be the member of the family. He's always been a bit like James Dean. Well, I'm not totally cynical, I just leave things up to God and ask Him to lead and guide me and He hasn't disappointed me.
Although I am very conservative on social, moral, religious and military matters, I do reserve some distrust of the "monied interests" that rule both parties and I don't see the free market as the answer to everything. Michael Savage said, "the free market only exists in textbooks." I would call myself perhaps a "right wing populist/nationalist," a "Teddy Roosevelt Republican," maybe even a "Scoop" Jackson or Hubert Humphrey Democrat. I've took an online political test and I got "Social Republican." Perhaps again bumming a phrase off of Michael Savage, a compassionate conservative. I guess deep down, I do have a "bleeding heart" although it should be tied to giving a hand up not a hand out. I just don't like the "I've Got Mine rhetoric" that seems to permeate here from time to time. I've been in both worlds so I think that has humbled and tempered me.
I don't see things as right or left, conservative or liberal, donkey or elephant, but as right or wrong.
I think on some things, we may have to agree to disagree but I think we can agree on more things such as fighting the War on Terror for example. To me, I've defined conservatism as more of a social and religious realm so some things like having a social safety net and so on, I have no problem with as long as it is run right and every dime is better accounted for.
As to conspiracy stuff, maybe I laid it on a little too thick but I do believe there is some sort of consensus out there where the "movers and shakers" tend to gaggle together and look out for their own interests and there are times the rest of us would suffer.
Oh, yeah, for the heck of it, I did research on the phrase, "The Man," and it goes back further than I thought. I thought it was from the 1960's with the Black Panther movement. It goes back to as far as 1910 or so. It was kind of a pleasant surprise. Maybe I ought to check the text of books form that time to see if David Graham Phillips and others have used it or not.
BTW, there is one word out there that maybe you can help me with, check your Freepmail soon.
