[The proposed rebuilding plan caused so much anger in part because it suggests a moratorium on new building permits in areas heavily flooded by Hurricane Katrina on Aug. 29, such as parts of the Ninth Ward, Lakeview and East New Orleans.]

Are these the people who think it's great when the government tells people you can't smoke indoors (for your safety), you have to wear a stabled or you'll be fined (for your safety), you need to have warning labels on every thing you buy (for your safety) reminding you of all the ways you're not supposed to hurt yourself with simple household items, and who think it's the government's greatest responsibility to keep every man, woman and child in America safe from all hazards large and small?

But when the government actually does something for public safety that it is legitimately supposed to do, like preventing people from building homes below sea level on the same spot where their old homes were washed away by a hurricane a few months before, these same people scream and cry that the big, bad government is picking on them.

I give up.
