I recall something happening like this a few decades ago.

Peru, I think, wanted F-16s from the US. They were too expensive. So they decided to buy MiGs from China. The Chinese sent them over... but they arrived in boxes with assembly instructions. In Chinese. And Russian. They had one hell of a time putting them together.

Yeah. If we ever went toe-to-toe with ol'citgo boy, his planes would never leave the tarmac. They would be destroyed by the time their pilots made it in their flight suits. And I'm sorry, but an F-16 hasn't got a shot in hell against an F-15 or a Raptor with modern avionics.

So it doesen't really matter if we sell him planes, parts or let him buy russian or chineese crap.

Peru does not have MiGs from China. They purchased 18 MiG-29Cs from Belarus after the Alta Cenepa war in 1995, when the Ecuadorian Air Force shot down 4 Peruvian fighter jets and 5 Peruvian helicopters.

China never had the MiG-29. They only have MiG-17, 19, 21s.

The 4 Peruvian planes shot down were 2 Su-22s, and 2 A-37Bs.

The A-37s were shot down by Israeli made Kfirs, and the Su-22s were downed by Mirage F-1Js.

After that, Fujimori decided Peru needed some more modern fighters, and bought the 18 MiG-29s (now only 16, since two of them have crashed) from Belarus, for about 14 million dollars each.
