It is always dangerous to generalize about ideological trends among the American electorate, since it will always lean right on certain issues (like defense, terrorism and taxes) and hew to the left on others (like healthcare, education, poverty and the environment). But the data are becoming overwhelming that the nation is moving left and is likely to stay that way through at least the 2006 election and, if President Bush doesnt adjust, for a lot longer.

If its any comfort Dick Morris has been wrong far more often than not and even he admits that the Moonbat left is doing everything it can to drive themselves into irrelevancy.

I guess this means Dick will go back to kissing up to the left now?

I don't believe America is shifting left. What I do believe is that Conservative America has been disappointed by the Republican Party in certain aspects, most notably spending.
This may be enough to keep vital voters home on polling day.

America is turning Left - and he bases that conclusion on what? January polls that always show generic Democrats winning? We're still a long ways from November.

Exactly my first thought... I'm so glad he said that... : )

If America is shifting left then that means the liberals have come up with a plan to fight Islamo Fascism. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to post it because I have missed it.
If they don't have a plan then Morris is sucking toes again.

Makes me wonder if he is submitting his application to work for "SHE, who shall not be named"
Further, I'll predict that "SHE who shall not be named" will banish Howard Dean from the DNC so as to appear to be a centrist.

Thank God he's always wrong. Morris is like an anti-Cassandra. He's always wrong, yet people flock to believe him.

I agree Republicans shouldn't be complacent. If they don't confirm Alito and advance parts of the President's agenda, they will pay a price for it later this year. They can hang together or fall separately. In short, either they do the job of cleaning up the corruption and cutting spending or someone else will do it for them. I'd hate to see that happen. The party has been placed on notice.

What Morris misses in these kind of inane columns is that society can "shift left" on a number of somewhat inconsequential issues---prescription drug coverage, ANWAR---and have its priorities COMPLETELY in order, i.e., the War on Terror. Indeed, it is the success in the latter that sometimes allows people to flirt with liberalism in the former.
If we were in more desperate straits in the War on Terror, there would be NO money for prescription drugs; ANWR would have been opened up two years ago; and several leakers would already be in jail.

Sir, I have read your posts here for a good long time, and I often think that you understand this country better than about 90% of those who live here.
Dead on accurate, in my opinion.
The GOP needs to show some significant leadership and get its act together.
To: An Old Marine
good idea about drug testing though.

Morris hates, with a passion, she who shall not be named. And she him. I would see his comments more as a misreading of the data.
But hey, stranger things have happened.
