Miers would have been roasted in this forum. Instead of this fine victory we are looking at we would have had an unmitigated disaster.
That's exactly what I have been thinking, and what I thought at the time of the Miers nomination fiasco.
Had Meirs been given "her right to a hearing," she would have been publicly humiliated, her nomination would have been rightly rejected by Democrats AND Republican alike, we would have suffered a serious and likely permanent setback in our objective to return the Supreme Court to its Constitutional function, the Republicans would have suffered an enormous public relations black eye, the Dems would have been emboldened to even greater opposition the next time around, and potential candidates would be more reluctant to accept nomination.
In short, we would have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Yesterday we made fun of idiot 'Rat Senators who were foolish enough to bring up Miers. I guess today we have to make fun of posters who can't stop beating a dead horse.
Alito is up for confirmation, not Miers.
