Based on the results of this test, the researchers concluded the subjects exhibited the most severe impairments to their short-term memory, counting skills and cognitive abilities from sleep inertia within the first three minutes after awakening. The most severe effects of sleep inertia generally dissipated within the first 10 minutes, although its effects were often detectable for up to two hours, they added.
For me the most severe effects of sleep inertia start to dissipate after, oh, the first hour. :-)

For me it's usually around noon before I become alert.

If I have an appointment for 10:00 I set the alarm for 8:00.
I'm still legally impaired when I get in the elevator.

To be ultra alert!

Why don't they just phone me and ask about these things instead of wasting money on tests? Had to be done on a gov't grant!

How wonderful it must be to be able to sleep. No matter how long that I have been asleep, the second my feet hit the floor, I am wide awake. Any suggestions? Just remember that I have been like this for 63 years and have never slept the night through.

Il'd like to trade places with you.
For me sleep is a curse. It takes me an hour to get up and brush my teath. I haven't had breakfast in twenty years.
I suggest no TV or other stimulation two hours before bed time.
Drink Chamomile tea and and read a book that you have not the slightest interest in.
I suggest anything by Sartre or Hegel. Ten minutes and you will be out like a light.

Hmmm...I wonder if this applies to people who are sleep-deprived due to being on Day Four of jet lag?
I'll go find some calculus equations to work on... ;-)

The problem is not getting to sleep, it is staying there.
When I was a baby during the war, and gas and tires were rationed, the only way that my parents could get me to seep was to drive me around. The minute that the car stopped I was wide awake. Makes for a crabby person to live with.

If you're reading this at this time of the morning you MIGHT be an insomniac! LOL. Or an ex-pat. I notice a few of us seem to be trolling around during this time. ;-)
'Tis 1:40 p.m. on my side of the world.
I love to read what some of the U.S. night-owl FReepers say at this time of day.
