Murtha probably carried them in himself - bypassing the usual security and screening process.

Why would ANYONE be exempt from security and screening at Walter Reed? I would feel better knowing they have rules that every visitor must adhere to and procedures that every employee must follow.

Every patient has the right to determine who their visitors will or will not be. If they are too incapacitated to make that list, the family has the right. For example, typically patients in ICU have a visitors' list and anyone not on the list may not visit them.

It is not possible to walk in to any major hospital that I know of and impose oneself or one's "gifts" on patients not previously known to the visitor. I would hope that it is even less possible at WR.

This article has got me worried along the lines of WR security.
