Days after dozens of protesters rallied at a day laborer site in neighboring Glendale, Burbank officials are preparing to celebrate the grand opening of a Home Depot and an adjacent hiring center.
They are also preparing for protests.
The City Council took the unusual step of requiring Home Depot to construct the hiring hall as a condition of building the store, sparking a contentious public debate with some accusing the council of catering to illegal immigrants. The store and the center are scheduled to open Thursday.
Protesters plan to attend the council's meeting tonight, when the panel is expected to approve a one-year agreement with Catholic Charities to run the hiring hall. Demonstrators also plan a rally for Saturday at the new center.
"The end result is a loss of jobs that rightfully belong to American citizens, because of cheap labor and corrupt employers," said Barbara Coe, chairwoman of the California Coalition for Immigration Reform.
City officials said that when Home Depot applied for a building permit, they anticipated day laborers would gather in front of the store waiting for construction jobs.
To avoid tensions with neighbors, the council decided to make Home Depot responsible for building a hiring site, hoping it would provide a safe and orderly way for the laborers to get jobs.

Only crack.
BTTT
They have a large nationwide campaign to hire latinos only. African Americans, Asians, and Whites need NOT apply.
let's invite Art Bell.
"Murphy probably owns the contract for supplying the Barca loungers"
Heck she may be incharge of the drug trafficking there too.
Since we elected Susan Spanos and Stacy Murphy.
I've heard they engage in all sorts of unmentionable activity in those centers.
It really is not a good idea to bring these men home with you. They have been known to come back and rob and burglarize.
My sister brought home one of those guys she needed some work done around the house. He fell, broke his leg and sued her for the next 6 years.
She had to deal with this all while her husband was dying of cancer.
Pasadena, Glendale have illegal alien lounges. Now we are joining in. I heard about a month ago, that the L.A. city council was going to vote to take on the responsibility of the centers at taxpayers expense. A
Apparently, the Catholic Charities are overwhelmed by the whole thing and don't want to be bothered by it.
City of LA already has a illegal alien site in North Hollywood....near the LAUSD bus yard and near the Home Depot on Sherman Way I believe....way messier than Glendale's area near the RR tracks.
BPD is running the plates of the people parked around city hall.
why?
are they running plates? Maybe someone parked there and walked to a nearby restaurant?
A few years ago, I went to the Home depot. I was stuck on the driveway apron at the entrance. I had 4 men barely spoke English reaching for the handles trying to open the car doors, screaming lady take me home with you. I had my children, grammar school age at the time screaming in the car. I was afraid for our safety. When it was clear, I continued to drive. I never returned to that Home Depot ever again. I shop at the smaller hardware stores around town. I will Not shop at Home Depot. The apparently cater to this kind of activity. I sure would like to know who owns this outfit. I should look into it a little more because they are a very strange company with their priorities backwards.
You belong in jail along with the illegals.
If you hire the wrong guy, you may end up burgled and/or robbed...
Possibly sued if they cut themselves or some other injury.
It happened to my sister. 5 years of lawsuit, continuances because the man was out of the country, and large settlements against your insurance company.
No Thanks, you can take your chances.
By the way aiding and abetting illegal aliens IS A CRIME.
"They have a large nationwide campaign to hire latinos only. African Americans, Asians, and Whites need NOT apply"
But they do support the queers!
whatever, reverse discrimination is still discrimination.
It is racist to prefer one race over the other.
they were running plates of people who went to the council meeting to protest I guess.....PD says far more press than protesters.
Why do they need to take plates when people go before the camera and state their name to complain. Must be more people outside than inside.
